Anyway to sync contacts with other folder than contacts?
Sorry if wrong forum. I thought I might get a quick answer here and it is on my X50v
![]() I would like to sync my X50v contacts with my work's Outlook 2003 but would like to sync to other folder than "Contacts". In my work Outlook Contacts folder I have business and personal contacts that are mainly just e-mail addresses. On my X50v I have mainly personal contacts with addresses and phone numbers. Idealy I would like a folder called "contacts - X50v" and sync to that folder. It would be nice if I could do this for tasks as well. Thanks!

Activesync won't do it but there might be some third party tools that will. Intellisync maybe??
To get around that issue - I use catergories. All my contacts are viewed on my my PC and PDA by catergories first. That way it's very very clear which group is which.

I'm a little confused by this-can I tell Activesync to sync with folders other than my default? At work Outlook is of course conected to an Exchange server, and the calender/contact/etc. folders are on the server.
I would want to create personal folders that aren't located on a server (I'm concerned about privacy), and then sync the Axim with that. I don't want my private PDA data going on to a work server! For that matter, anyone know how to hide the default Outlook calender that's located on the server? I don't use it at all, and don't even want to.

I'm new to Pocket PC's, but have owned a number of Palm devices over the past 10 years or so. My last was a Sony Clie N610C, and I used Intellisync with it. It allowed me to sync with additional Contact folders, like you're wanting to do. I haven't decided whether to purchase it for my X30, but I'm betting the Pocket PC version has the same capability as the Palm version. I hope someone here can confirm that guess.

From another forum I found out it's not possible to sync with anything but the default Outlook folders using just Activesync. Apperently you have to use Intellisync, which claims to be able to sync with any Outlook folders, or even with Palm Desktop (which would be awesome, if it works right).
So assuming Intellisync really works, I guess an x50 is an option for me again. Anyone know if in Outlook 2003 it's possible to hide default folders? Outlook defaults to showing the default/server calender every time it's loaded, even though I unchecked it the last time I used the program. I'm questioning whether it's even worth buying an x50, since my keeping it hinges on a third party piece of software flawlessly allowing me to sync with Outlook the way I need, or Palm Desktop. Seems like there'd be a huge risk I'd have to send it back.

I figured out a way to do what I want (more or less).
In Outlook 2003 go to Tools/Email Accounts/View or Change existing... Highlight the Exhange Server, and at the bottem of the window, change "deliver new e-mail to the following location: from your Mailbox to your personal folders. That causes all the defaults, to switch to the personal folders, meaning the calendar data won't get stored on the server. The downside to that is that I actually want my mail left on the server (I should be able to make my default mail location the server, but my default Calendar location my personal folders). But it's more or less workable. I could concievably use a filter to move mail back to the server. Or I'll have access to my old mail on the PocketPC, and can still see new mail on the server through the web interface. Outlook is amazingly clunky. Just to mimick Palm Desktop's ability to hide completed items you have to right click on the Tasks list, select filter, and select a status of "not started". And I'd have to reverse the process to delete completed items. Ugh. What a choice. A T5 with no Graffiti (hence PAINFUL text entry), no voice recorder, and no streaming media support. Or an x50 with a hidious interface on the desktop (and a clunky mobile interface). If I could just combine all the best features of a T5 and x50...
