possible to sync on two PC's?

I haven't found this referenced anywhere in the user's manual or in any of the forums, but I'm wondering if its possible to sync on two PCs. I'd like to be able, from time to time, to get the files off my Axim so that I can work with them on a PC other than the one I normally sync it on. Is this doable or will I make a mess? If it is doable, any how-to advice genuinely appreciated. Thanks.

Yea why not
You just set up a partnership between two pcs. All you have to do is...
make sure you have a cradle and a sync cable (or whatever, just two sync wires)sync it to one, and then sync to another. Just make sure you have two wires, and active sync installed on both the pcs.

in activesync when you first connect your device and first make the partnership you select if you want to sync with just one or with more than one pc, just select more than one and you are ready to go :)

I believe the limit is 2 full syncs. Any more would be guest syncs. There are free and for $ programs out there for more than 2 pcs.

Activesyncing inbox problem

I use activesync 3.8 with my x50v to synch with two computers. However, activesync will not let me synch my inbox because the device has partnerships with more than one PC. I want to synch my home emails from outlook, and ignore email on my work pc.

Any one doing this?

This is the exact problem I've just discovered. I want to sync my work emails but not my home emails. However, ActiveSync 3.8 says I have to break the original partnership if I want to do this.

Hi,

the only thing you cannot do with two partnerships is synchronizing emails with both - unfortunately. However, if you just want files you can set up guest partnerships. This works perfectly! You can then e.g. access your Axim through the PC's file explorer, synchronize AvantGo by activating the synchrnoization on the Axim etc.

Thanks for the info.

I've seen the error message again - it says you have to delete one of the partnerships from ActiveSync to fix it.

Ah yes, that is really annoying.
My recommendation i:
Delete all partnerships on your computers.
Firstly, you have to set up the partnership with the computer you want synchronise the inbox with. (you have to confirm just synching with this computer..)
Secondly, set up the other partnership (there you have to confirm to set up a second partnership somewhere during the process), with which you can synchronize anything else than the inbox.
Then you may proceed with setting up any other guest partnership

Hi folks - thanks for the great info in this thread. I've been wanting to sync my X50v both at home and work, sharing contacts, calendar, tasks etc, BUT keeping a home and work Outlook email accounts separate. Tried everyitng, but come to the conclusion you just cant do it. Ai I think you've just confirmed it Schlinki.

But is there any reason why not? Could you not just create a subfolder for work and home emails? I have separate email accounts for a wifi and a BT connection.

Has anyone else done it?

I believe Schlinki has the correct answer. Try it and let us know how it turns out.

From Pocket PC Activesync newsgroup:

"I sync outlook email at work just fine but I can't sync outlook email at
>home. It's 2 different email addresses. How do you sync more than one email
>account. When I set up a new partnership at home it wants to wipe out the
>partnership at work.
You cannot synchronize Inbox with more than one computer. Sorry.

BUT you can set up through messaging to download your home email messages from the mailserver. Start-->Messaging-->Accounts-->New and set up the email account.

Outlook inbox on 2 pcs

Thanks for the tip Schlinki. I've now deleted all partnerships and re-established the work one fooling it (for the time being anyway!) by saying I want just one partnership with the work pc. The Axim now has the work Outlook synchronsied - as expected. When I get home this evening (it's 08.45 GMT here)I'll see what happens when I when I re-establish the partnership there - this time using the "2 pc" option. I don't expect to be able to sync the home Outlook, but that's OK.

I'll give you an update later! Cheers :approve:
