Contacts Duplicated When Syncing Between two PCs

When I originally got my X50v, I set it up to sync with only my home machine. Yesterday, I decided to set up a seond partnership with my work PC.

Everything went fairly smoothly but I did encounter one strange problem. When I synced to my work machine, it duplicated every contact where there was a common contact on both the Axim and my work PC.

For example, if John Doe existed in my Axim contact list and it also existed in my desktop work PC contact list, I ended up with two separate entries for John Doe on both the Axim and on the desktop PC.

What worked just fine was when there was a contact on the Axim that was not on the desktop PC, a new contact entry was placed on the desktop PC. The same was true for contacts that were on my desktop PC but not on the Axim--the sync process created a contact entry on the Axim. Perfect!!

What surprised me was that the sync process apparently could not tell when an identical contact already existed on both the Axim and the desktop PC and it created duplicate entries.

Active sync only gave me two options when I synced, something like combine items or replace items. I chose combine because I had contacts on my PDA that were not on the desktop PC and vice versa and I wanted the sync process to have an end outcome where both the Axim and the desktop contained identical contact lists.

No big deal but I did have to delete about 90 duplicate contact entries. Did I do something wrong or is this normal behavior?

Thanks.

I'd say that it is normal behavior. If the information in each contact was not completely identical then it really has no choice but to do this. If you had a work and fax number listed for john doe on your work computer but only had a work number listed for john doe on your home computer then I am pretty sure it will have no choice but to have two separate john doe contacts.

I had the exact same issue. What I did finally was this: Synced with my 2nd computer. I then ended up with a ton of duplicate contacts(or nearly duplicates)on my PC. I then deleted ALL my contacts on my 2nd computer and did another sync. All the contacts that were on my PPC are now on my computer without the duplicates. This way I avoided having to delete duplicates manually.

Yeah, Norgoth is right. This was exactly the solution I found, when I had to set up partnership with my office and my home computer. I went several times through this deletion process until I realised that I could simply delete the contacts etc on the second computer before the synchronisation.

If I recall correctly I deleted the file, on which the Office data manager points to. But I am not sure any more. I would have to check it on my office computer.

To add to this, my work PC has all my information on its server. There was one instance when my PPC overrode items on my work PC and caused me issues, mainly with meetings.

I've set the rules up that my work PC overrides my PPC and I've set the rules on my home PC that it is overridden by my PPC. This can be done under rules in AS.

N4VNI,

The easiest way to delete all calendar data is to open the calendar view, go to "edit" and then "select all", then hit "delete".
