Outlook sync: Non-default folders, sub-folders + conflict resolution

Hi All,

[Note: Posted most of this in the X30 - General Discussions Forum, as well.]

New Axim user here, recently bought an X30 from Dell's Outlet Store. Wanted to see if others could shed some light on some sync questions (yes, I did search the archives )...

1. I currently sync a Palm V with Outlook 2002 using Puma's (excellent) Intellisync. Intellisync does not support Windows Mobile 2003. Any other 3rd-party sync software that can sync the X30 with Outlook 2002?

2. My Outlook is set up with Contacts stored in a folder w/several sub-folders within a .PST, while Calendar/Tasks/Notes are stored in my work's IMAP data store. Puma Intellisync allows the user to "pick & choose" from all available Outlook folders + subfolders for syncing. In other words, I can easily select any grouping of Outlook folders/subfolders (not just the default folders), and those will be synced with my Palm. Any way to make ActiveSync do the same?

3. So far, I'm not a fan of ActiveSync 3.8, both for the reason above and the fact that it does not seem to have any Conflict Resolution. Any chance I've missed this, and it actually has Conflict Resolution somewhere?

Thanks in advance... I really wish Intellisync supported Windows Mobile 2003, but it looks to be at least a couple months off.

Greg

Welcome to Aximsite.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you are right. ActiveSync is functional, barely. Hopefully someone else will post a solution. You might also try a search for ActiveSync on the Aximsite.

If I understand your questions correctly
To choose which folders to sync:
1. Open up ActiveSync on your desktop
2. Right-click on "Inbox"
3. Choose "settings" and you'll be able to choose folders and subfolders that exist in Outlook

Conflict resolutions settings are found by doing the following:
1. From the desktop ActiveSync menu, click options.
2. Click the Rules tab
3. Manage your conflict resolution accordingly.

Does that cover what you were looking for?

Unfortunately, no folders or subfolders show up when I do this (although an out-of-memory error appears!). When I've looked here for the other folders, e.g. Tasks, it also does not seem to allow me to select individual folders/sub-folders to include in the sync, presumably it wants to sync the default Tasks folder only. Bummer.

Sorry, I should have been more specific: Intellisync's Conflict Resolution will (i) alert me to the conflict, (ii) show me both items (the Outlook Note and the Palm Note, for example), and (iii) allow me to manually select which one 'wins' during the sync... this has saved me from mistakenly over-writing info many times. It looks like ActiveSync only allows you to set a global/general rule stating that the Outlook version always wins, over vice-versa...not a case-by-case basis. Another bummer... I do wanna like the X30, dunno if I can live with its syncing capabilities.

The instructions were correct. Under options, conflict resolution, at desktop, choose "Leave item unresolved". When you sync, you will get a message telling you "2 items were not resolved. Click here to resolve". When you click, it brings up the option for you to manually select which one 'wins'.

Cool! Thanks for the clarification, I gotta test this out.

Now if I can only figure out a way to sync Contacts without having to place them all into one jumbo 'Contacts' folder residing in my work's IMAP data store... would be nice if ActiveSync could access them (incl sub-folders) from their .PST file.
