Device name

I downloaded active sync 3.8 yesterday, and was forced to rename my device. Question 1 - why? Question 2 - is there a way I can reestablish the old device name, as all of the programs under that name are greyed out under the new name?

I appreciate any help that can be given.

On your desktop open activesync and click on file. Then delete the partnerships (including the one that is the one you want to use). This will clear it out so when you reconnect your devise you can set it up again using the old devise name.
For some reason it sees the devise (after upgrading activesync) as a new devise and wants to give it a new name.
I hope this helps.

Just to clarify - you can only delete a partnership if you are not connected to your desktop.

disconnect your axim open activesync click the file menu, click mobile device, select the old name of your device, next click file menu, click delete partnership, repeat this process for the new device name, then connect your device when you prompted to create a partnership type in the old name and you will then have your device name restored.

hope thats some help (it baffled me when it happened to me)

Thanks - However the suggestions didn't work! When I went to device the only partnership it showed was the newly established one. I deleted that one and made an attempt to use my previous name. I still got the same msg re device name already in use. It didn't show under "device". My major concern is that all of the programs that were installed under my previous device name remain greyed out and leave me with the impression that they are no accessible under any new name. Is that correct? I sure would like to get this solved.
