I'm still able to Wifi sync after the A02 update. The one difference in my settings from what you have listed is that I do have ""Use mobile schedule to sync" checked, with both "Peak Times" and "Off-peak Times" set to Manually.
I also have my local subnets listed in the URL Exceptions list, although this shouldn't make any difference since I believe ActiveSync uses NetBIOS names anyway.

Well, this is weird. I tried all kinds of things last night - soft reset on the PPC, turned off the firewall, used Resync to restart ActiveSync on the PC, rebooted the PC. I did each of these multiple times and nothing worked so I turned the firewall back on and gave up. I just tried again this afternoon, thinking I’d give it one more try before digging through the spare room for my cable and dang, it worked first time. I have no idea what was wrong last night.

I'm still stuck. I tried the suggestion from BooDa, no go. I've also reinstalled TCP/IP on the desktop, no go. I can still ping the desktop, but Activesync can't connect. Ikehiker was my last hope. Rats!

Same problem with ActiveSync 3.8 and iPAQ 4150
I've got a similar problem.
A few weeks back I was using ActiveSync 3.7.1 with my HP iPAQ 4150 and ActiveSync was working fine over WiFi.
I had to format my computer for unrelated reasons and when Windows was back on, I went to the Microsoft download site to find that Active Sync 3.8 had been released, so I downloaded that.
It's installation went fine, and I am able to sync fine with it and Outlook 2003.
However, I am no longer able to sync via WiFi. You hit the "Sync" button, it says "Connecting" for about two seconds, then goes back to "Not Connected". I know 3.8 has this new security focus, and RAS is disabled by default, but I've enabled it, disabled it, re-enabled it over and over, but nothing works.
I can sync via a cable and the IR port without a problem.
I've played with every setting I can think of, both on the iPAQ and in ActiveSync itself. It's really quite annoying.
The iPAQ has an IP from my DHCP server, it can surf the internet and ping the computer with ActiveSync installed on it.
I'd be interested to see if any of you happen to find some kind of resolution...
EDIT: ummm, I just noticed the actual title of this site, Axim... Damn Google, giving me website results relating to other PocketPCs :P Oh well, I guess the problem here is more ActiveSync rather then the PDA, so I guess I'm in the same boat as the rest of you...

DWZ, don't worry about a "alien" device. We're not that picky here. Besides, the site is allied with ipaqhq.com through the common "boss," Chris.
If you solve it, please post it here, I'm struggling with the exact same symptoms.

can you remove the update? also check to make sure that your firewall settings haven't changed. there seems to be a lot of this going on.

ok guys,
i had the same problems. after many many hours of trying i solve this problem. here is what i did:
1. i disabled the windows-firewall for my WLan-connection on my notebook and suddently everything worked fine .
2. enabled the firewall again and opened the system for ports 990,999,5678 and 5679 (AS ports). BUT: DIDN'T WORK
3. disabled the firewall again : WLAN ASYNC WORKED AGAIN
4. tried to open the ports under firewall -> extended --> "Allowed services" : DIDN'T WORK
5. disabled the firewall again : WLAN ASYNC WORKED AGAIN
6. enabled the firewall and opened "file- and printer-sharing" at the firewall settings ---> WORKED!! YEEHAA
deleted all the new port entries i made before --> only enabled "File- and printer-sharing"!
the solution : "File- and printer-sharing" opens NetBios and UDP port 137! Both is needed for a sucessfull sync over Lan or WLan! NetBios --> makes sense !!!
also look here:

or if you speak german ;) :

to secure your pc again also look here (bottom): http://www.cewindows.net/faqs/active...p2firewall.htm
i hope i could help somebody - wasn't that easy for me to solve this problem.

Didn't work for me. I already had that done. Still can't activesync WiFi, even with the firewall completely disabled and virus checking completely uninstalled.

Look at the Windows Firewall a little closer
Not sure if this will help, but I just spent about a week trying to figure when and when doesn't my wifi work. I discovered I could connect fine at one point. After doing so, I decided to turn my firewall on to increase my protection. I tryed the sync again and it worked fine. The next day nothing worked. I would then try multiple things, and I would even turn the firewall off, and it still wouldn't connect. I even did hard resets. Finally after rebooting my PC, it connected. This happened a couple times. I finally figured out that turning my firewall and the reboot of my PC made my x50 happy. The firewall settings seem to take effect immediatly for other PC's on the network (i.e. file sharing from a different PC) but wouldn't take effect for my x50 until my PC was rebooted. Same seemed to prove true when turning the firewall on... didn't seem to have the effect until after rebooting. Not sure why... seems like it has a hard time locating the IP of my PC somepoint through this whole process.
There is one thing you can do to see if your PC is getting checked out by your PDA.
1. Turn your firewall settings on (default is fine). Go to your advanced tab to Security Logging. Turn both check boxes on and note the location of the log file.
2. Reboot your PC. Check what your current IP is.
3. Soft reset you Axim. Note what your current IP is.
4. Get your wifi connected to the network and then try your sync software.
5. It most likely will say 'connecting' for a while and then fail.
6. Go to the security log file your firewall created, to the bottom of it.
7. Look for entries where your axim was trying to connect to your PC. You should see the IP listed of your axim. Mine had the below lines in it. It lists both your pc IP and your axim IP. It is also indicating that it is dropping a request at port TCP 603.
2005-03-14 17:04:04 DROP TCP 10.15.4.44 10.15.4.41 603 1061 48 SA 1668664152 103659838 65535 - - - SEND
2005-03-14 17:04:07 DROP TCP 10.15.4.44 10.15.4.41 603 1061 40 A 1668664153 103659838 65535 - - - SEND
2005-03-14 17:04:07 DROP TCP 10.15.4.44 10.15.4.41 603 1061 48 SA 1668664152 103659838 65535 - - - SEND
2005-03-14 17:04:13 DROP TCP 10.15.4.44 10.15.4.41 603 1061 40 A 1668664153 103659838 65535 - - - SEND
2005-03-14 17:04:13 DROP TCP 10.15.4.44 10.15.4.41 603 1061 48 SA 1668664152 103659838 65535 - - - SEND
At this point I could tell it was at least trying to connect. I then tried to leave my firewall on and tried opening my 603 port... but was unsuccessful. I currently have my firewall turned off (and rebooted of course). I'm running XP Pro with all the patches including SP2. I'm running Cadenza mNotes on my PDA to sync (I can specify a specific IP or netbios name in my cadenza software)
Hope this helps. Use or Throw.

Ok, I got one activesync over WiFi! Following on the post by zjgolf44, I tried the log examination, found that it was receiving, not sending, any packets. I tried opening ports, creating entries, etc, but nothing worked. I finally just reset the firewall to default settings. (I figured that anything that needed a port would pop up a message to that effect, which would be annoying, but I had made so many tweaks I wasn't sure it was protecting anything anymore and I wanted the protection. The pain of opening each app again will be acceptable.) There is a one-button click to do that reset to default, and I clicked it. It removed practically all entries from the Exceptions tab, leaving only file sharing as an exception. So, with it now set to Default, I connected through WiFi to my network and triggered Activesync. I did get a warning and accepted the exception for Activesync and it worked! What I am beginning to suspect is that something in the recent Microsoft updates to XP keeps part of the firewall going even when the firewall is "disabled." By resetting to default settings on the firewall, whatever was blocking the communications was reset and now works. I'm not ready to declare victory, as I got syncs last night, but being a skeptic I want to see it succeed for a few days, but at least I got ONE sync through WiFi. That's one more than I have had. :approve:

Worked tonight, too! I'm glad to have it working, but am not happy that disabling the firewall didn't really disable it. If that's true, it's typical of M$ to embed stuff so tightly that you can't really control your machine. Bah!
