Activesync over WiFi

Ok, I'm looking for some help here. I have an X50v, upgraded to ROM ver 2. Ever since, I have not been able to activesync over wifi. I can connect to my router, I get an IP, I can surf the internet, so I know that I am in the network successfully. On the desktop machine, I have the RAS/Network Sync box checked on Activesync, I have established the partnership through USB (cradle AND cable) and can sync USB. I can ping from the desktop to the X50 and from the X50 to the desktop, so they can see each other in the network. But A/S, when I tap it on the Axim, shows "Connecting" for about 5 seconds and then drops. I know that it sometime takes a while to connect. I've tried for over an hour tapping several times a minute and seeing the same "connecting" followed by "Not Connected." I have tried turning off the Desktop firewall, disabling the wifi security and just about every setting on the Ax I can think of, but it simply won't connect.

On the Ax, my settings are:

Activesync: PC - the PC is accurately named, Use mobile schedule is unchecked, Sync with this PC during manual sync checked. On the Options tab, Enable PC sync using this connection is USB, but I've tried the other choices with no change. Maintain connection is selected.

Server is not selected.

Mobile schedule is Manually and Manually and the box is unchecked.

I use Odyssey, but I've tried it without it and it makes no difference. My router uses WEP encryption, MAC filtering and the SSID is hidden, but I've tried undoing all that with no difference. As I said, with the MAC filter, WEP and SSID hidden, I can still connect, surf, ping the desktop from the Ax and vice versa, so the X50 is seeing the desktop over the network. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Activesync. I'm running 3.8, but I was doing that before the ROM upgrade and I could sync just fine with it, so I don't think that's it, either.

So, I'm stumped. What have I missed?

Just a shot in the dark here, I am sure you have tried it. But, how about Options>Rules>Pass Through near the bottom. Maybe something to do with the "work" vs. "internet" deal? Like I said, just a shot in the dark. Good Luck, and let us know if you get it figured out.

Yeah, Jake. The two dropdown lists under "Select networks" should both be set to "My Work Network."

Make sure any firewall on the PC is allowing access and that NetBIOS is enabled over TCP/IP.

You might also try PocketHosts although there was some indication it didn't work well with the X30. I'm not sure if that was because of WM03SE or something more specific to that model. If you try installing it, do a backup beforehand so it will be easy to go back if it causes problems.

They are set to Work, and the pc is supporting netbios over TCP/IP. Basically, nothing has changed on the PC that used to sync under ROM a01, but it won't sync under ROM a02. I've spent maybe 150 to 200 hours troubleshooting this thing and it simply will NOT sync. What's really frustrating is that I can see both from the router, and ping from either finds the other, so it's not in the basic network connection. It has to be something in Activesync on one or the other, but I've fiddled with every setting I can find and nothing changes.

Oh, yeah, passthrough makes no difference either.

I'm having this exact problem with syncing over wifi. Although it has worked once or twice before, I didn't change anything and now it tries to connect for 5 seconds and then says not connected. I have yet to find an answer, and have used all the faqs and posts I can find!

after upgrading did you re-establish your partnership with the pc? and on the PC in activising under connection settings is Allow Network (ethernet) checked? Those were the two things that got me after I upgraded to a new rom, but I also upgraded to activsync 3.8 at the same time.

Docwardo, yes and yes. I listed both of those in my original post. It syncs just fine through USB, but won't connect through WiFi.

Ok, I tried Pocket Hosts and named my desktop with the right IP number, but that made no difference, either. So, any more ideas?

are you syncing with two different pc? for some reason when I sync on the pc at work then try to connect via wifi here at the house I have to go into AS>tools>options and select the right pc in the dropdown. It works fine the other direction wifi to usb but won't auto select usb to wifi.
edit: re-read the post and see you have done this.

Yeah, I've done that Big Dave. I've also tried to sync with one through USB, then immediately disconnect that and sync through WiFi to the same PC, but no luck.

Hey, if it was easy, I would have found it, right?

how about a hard reset to see if it works from there? i think you are right about the "Hey, if it was easy, I would have found it, right?" part.

Well, I'm trying to avoid that, since I'd have to then do a restore, and I am syncing with Lotus Notes through mNotes, which invariably ends up with duplicates, then I have to de-dupe, etc, etc, etc. I'm basically lazy, but curious, so I'd rather fuss with it than hard reset. If I get driven to a hard reset, That'll be the first thing I check, but for now, let's leave it as a challenge...

Hey Jake,

My WiFi sync stopped working sometime in the last couple of days, too. I still haven't figured out why. I suspect either one of the WinXP updates is causing it or installing the latest version of Firefox.

Whoa, Nellie! If Ikehiker has wifi problems, I'm in GOOD company!

When you get it sorted, tell me what you found and I'll try the same. I do have the windoze updates to XP, but I've tried turning off the firewall completely and it still doesn't connect. Everything points to something in the firewall or security, but Activesync is a MS product, for crying out loud! How hard could it be for them to test???
