ActiveSync just deleted all of my upcoming appointments!

I've become reliant on my PDA for all my appointments and for notifying me of such, I sync with my PC regularly so I have a copy in Outlook, but I don't really use the main Outlook calendar much.

However, my most recent sync has left my with no future appointments on either!! (previous items are still on both)

This is a nightmare - it will take me ages to work out what I need to put back there and actually put it back :(

Is this a regular problem?

Haven't heard of it before.

Before you do anything else go to the deleted items on your desktop PC - all your appointments should be there and you can restore them.

I restored the items (except those most recently added to PDA which there is no trace of) but now all the categories are messed up :(

Correcting categories is fairly easy to do.

Do you actually mean that when you view them they are all messed-up? (ie that each appointment has the right category but they are not all grouped).

Or do you mean that you have lost the categories that were on the appointemnets?

If it is the first one - got to View>Current viw and select whichever type of view that you want.

If it is the second one, then highlight all of the appointments that will have the same category (using Ctr key) and then right click and choose the category - this is an easy way to quicky change categories in Outlook.

BTW - no problem in getting your appointments back :approve:

Outlook is like any other piece of software that stores data - it must be backed up on a REGULAR basis. Export all your info to a .pst file (from the File -> Import and Export menu) REGULARLY and you won't have to worry as much about data loss.

While I'm out all day I will add a lot of stuff to my PDA, I may be away for a few days continually adding stuff -- backing up my desktop is absolutely no use when the PDA gets wiped!!

BTW: When I restore data on my desktop and sync that to the PDA, the categories get totally messed up :( - if anyone knows how to force Outlook to sync its "labels" with Windows Mobile's "categories" then that would be awesome.

Labels are not something that is currently sync'd across.

You need to use categories on both the desktop and mobile - sorry to disappoint you.

Sounds like you should invest in a copy of Sprite Backup for your Axim and set it to backup every night. You might also want to check out this free Outlook add-in from MS for automatically backing up your .pst file.
