Activesync lost device information after a hard reset

I recently performed a hard reset and Activesync would no longer let me connect as the same device name. I assumed that there was some sort of ROM ID that it would use for activesync... but I guess thats not what it uses. It's also not just the device name under device id name. What does it use? Worse than that I had to reinstall and reactivate Microsoft reader and now at least one of my purchased books won't open. Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong?

You haven't done anything wrong. All you need to do is delete the old partnership then resync. To delete the partnership, click on File - Delete Partnership when your Axim is NOT connected.

After you do this, can you reuse your original device name?

Yes, you can. Just make sure you have your original name as your Device name.

Mine would not let me reuse the original name. There must be some additional criteria it uses.

You can reuse the name, but you have to delete the old partnership first. With the Axim disconnected, on the PC, open Activesync, File, Mobile device and select the one you want to delete. Then File and Delete partnership. Close Activesync. Make sure the Ax as the name you want to use. Now cradle the Ax and it should establish a new partnership with that name.

I guess it doesn't matter because once you delete the partnership there is no reason to use the same name anyway.
