Ax Connects only as Guest???

I have WinXP w/SP 2 and running AS 3.8.

I have had no problems syncing via wifi until today. My Ax now connects to my PC as a Guest. Even when I delete and recreate the partnership, it'll initially sync (only via USB Cradle) but anything after that it'll only connect as a Guest. I've hard-reset the device, uninstalled and reinstalled AS 3.8...

I don't know what to do now...Any help would greatly be appreciated :D

Nope...

I haven't installed anything new on my PPC or the PC...Software load on the Ax Task+ and Calendar+ and Wizbar advance. Load on the PC is WinXP Pro, Sp2, MS Office 2k3 Professional, Maxthon, firefox, some oracle software for work and the Messengers (MSN and Yahoo).

Everything was fine until yesterday afternoon...

My last sync was on the 16th, wireless and worked like a charm.

Like I said, I tried the hardreset on the PPC (it actually hardreset the first time on its own!:O ) But still, first sync on the cradle works and any other syncs are as Guest...

The Ax is a year old...It's not time for a new one is it :O :O

Maybe it's an issue with the USB port on your PC?

Chris...

Nope...The issue present itself on a wifi sync first...

BUT, because I'm a try everything kind of guy, I did use the other USB port, with the same results.

I've also Restored my PC to the day of the last working sync and that hasn't fixed anything.

I'm thinking Dell, like HP, has built an 'obselecence string' into the code...It's been almost exactly one year since I got it!!!

I've been advised to try a ROM re-flash...We'll see later how that works ....

Hey,

Check in registry under: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\"

If you have the key: "GuestOnly" and its value is "1". Change it either to "0" or delete it.

Hope it helps

I had the same problem, too, earlier this month. There were like 5 or 6 other people that had posted about it, too. Every once in a while, I could get it to connect normally, but then the next day it would be a guest again. I eventually did a hard reset, saving only PIM, and just reloading everything else from my computer, and it's been fine since (about a week).

For so many people who hadn't had any similar problems before to have problems in a short time span, it makes me wonder if there's some pda virus floating around that's hitting people. Either that, or active sync 3.8 is really buggy.

Apparently a re-format of the hard-drive and a reinstall of Windows...blah blah fixed it...Or it could be the ActiveSync 3.7 that I installed from the CD...So maybe 3.8 has issues?
