More Activesync Woes

For some strange reason Activesync has stopped working on my desktop PC (XP Pro SP2). I know it connects because it shows up in the device manager. But when I open AS it shows that it is not connected. I don't believe the problem is with the PPC because I can sync with my laptop (XP Pro SP2) with no problem. I have done the Micro$oft dance (uninstall/reinstall) following all of the advice I can find in the forums. The install seems to go fine, but it never even asks me to set up a partnership. I had a similar problem a while ago, but then it would not sync with any computer. I did a hard reset and it had been working OK until recently. Obviously, I would rather not do the hard reset again. Any suggestions?

Are you installing AS with the cradle plugged in? If so, don't. You have to install without the cradle plugged in until the software prompts you to plug it in.

Nope...Following the instructions to the letter. After installing AS it never prompts me to plug the cradle in as a step. A screen comes up that says...1. Plug cradle in. 2. Turn PPC on. 3. Plug PPC in. Is there supposed to be a step that says to JUST plug the cradle in?
