Mad Activesync Problem after PC reformat....

When i had to reinstall my PC recently, I forgot to unplug the dock from rear USB...ummm...help.

I can't set up a partnership now and can't activesync over USB or WiFi anymore, I've tried uninstalling Activesync 3.7, and installing 3.8, but nothing helps. i can still get my files on it i need over WiFi and Resco, but i can't install new apps on my X50v. once again...any help appreciated.

Typically an unistall of Active Sync followed by a reboot will allow you to reinstall active sync from scratch and not have a problem.

Did you reboot between installations?

If that didn't work you might need to find the cradle in Device Mnagaer and delete it before proceeding with the unistall, reboot and reinstall.

Also it is best to go to V3.8 I think.

Cheers

You need to go into Hardware Manager on your PC and delete the partnership that was created between the PC and the cradle. Uninstall AS, then make sure the cradle is unplugged before you reinstall.

No luck yet... Anyone know what the name of the cradle is under hardware profiles and drivers?

If you look under device manager, you should see something called Windows CE USB devices, under that you should see Dell Axim USB Sync

Right click on it, and pick uninstall. Reboot, making sure your cradel is removed from your PC, and then follow the normal install instructions.

Still no luck, no Win CE devices under hardware in XP???? After clean Active sync install (no cradle, cleaned up old registry entries even) I still can't set up new partnership, no option to, and activesync says no partnerships...I can't figure out what's up, probably something simple I've overlooked, but maybe a super mega checklist would help. I dunno

OK, try this.
Export your registery prior to doing this just in case (always a good idea)

Uninstall Active sync. Remove all folders from your hard drive, don't forget the one located at C:\documents and settings\(user name)\application data\microsoft\activesync (remove the activesync folder)

Then remove all of your reg entries. I looked on my PC, and as I still have active sync installed I had over 200 entries, you may have less, but any entry that says c:\program files\microsoft\active sync you need to remove. Once that is done, reboot your PC.

Search your Hard drive for ActiveSync and remove any entries you may have missed.

Recheck your reg entries for ActiveSync entries, remove any you may have missed. Once you are sure it is all gone.

Make sure your cradle is unplugged and try the reinstall.

OK, I'll give it another whirl...got my iPaq BT headphones today and want everything just right so i can do a "perfect backup" of my x50v (always nice to have a fresh starting point after a hard reset on either end of my network) I'll let you know tomorrow if things are good again, thanx for the patience!
