Problem modifying a file as guest

Here is what happens:
I connect to a PC as a guest - no syncing - then use ActiveSync’s Explore, to copy a Word file from my Axim X30 to that PC. I then modify the Word file on that PC. Then I copy the file back to the Axim (overwriting the original file). I do this because it is more convenient to edit a Word file on the PC. When I get home and do a sync to my PC, that particular Word file gets deleted from the syncd folder on the PC.

It is still on the Axim, but it even gets removed from the list of files to keep syncd; in the ActiveSync Options section. I must manually copy it back from the Axim to the syncd folder on the PC.

I’ve tried lots of combinations of creating files and folders on the Axim while not connected, and the same on the PC. When I sync, everything is fine. It is only the above scenario that does not work.

It can be a pain to have to keep track of files I modify in that way, to manually recopy when I get home. I could copy the modified file back to the Axim with another name, (that ends up being syncd OK), but then I have to delete the original…

What is going on here? Is it a limitation of ActiveSync or Windows Mobile 2003SE?
No difference with ActiveSync 3.7 or 3.8
Thanks
