Error Installing Active Sync

I have X30Mid. I had installed AS 3.7.1. and was able to sync my Axim to my desktop PC (via USB initially and later via Wifi)

I also synced it with my work laptop (but only via USB cable).

A few weeks back I had some problem syncing data with my desktop PC, hence I uninstalled AS and tried to reinstall the application AS (3.7 and also 3.8). It would not install and give me the following error.

Setup could not copy the file 'C:\Documents and Settings\UserId\Local Settings\Temp\IXP002.TMP\core\inf\wceusbsh.inf' (copy error -1). Restart your desktop computer and run Setup again

I searched the web including MS website, but did not find any solution to this problem. FYI: Both PCs are running WinXP Pro.

The sync between my work laptop and Axim is still working. No problems with that pairing. But this Active Sync would not get installed on my home desktop PC.

Any ideas?

Had the same problem

I lost my sync abilities and un-installed the Activesync to find out the every time I went to re-install I got the same error.

I tried it again today and it worked, it hung up on 99% at first but I walked away and came back and it was fine, then hung up again at 92% but installed ok.

Hope that helps, try to go back and download software again today and it should be ok. Think Microsoft fixed their problem.

Good luck, I still can't get mine to sync.

I have tried many times (every time downloading a new copy of AS from Microsoft website), but it has always failed with the same error message.

Solution simple (I know, I had the same problem myself!)...just make sure you unplug the cradle usb plug from the PC, before installing!

Had already tried that too. Removed not only the sync cable but all USB devices from the USB port before trying to install AS but the installation still failed.

Isn't there a problem with AS4 and wifi? Have you tried that yet?

Yes.. Sync via WiFi does not work. I tried it. But atleast its better (sync via USB) than nothing (no sync because AS 3.8 or 3.7 fails to install).
