Activesync 4 problem.
Hi, installed activesync 4 the other day, didn't realise it doesn't support remote syncing via wifi, so uninstalled it and put 3.8 back on. Trouble is, it isn't syncing with the x50v now, and won't display the activesync window. Anyone got any ideas? I thought I saw a post where various activesync 4 files had to be manually deleted, but can't find it.

I am having the EXACT same problem! I am stuck with the 4.0 beta too, and I experience the exact same weirdness when trying to revert to 3.8.
If anyone finds the solution, I too would be grateful so I can WiFi sync again. :)

I'm not familiar with AS 4, but did you completely delete its home directory under \Program Files\ActiveSync\ and any other associated directories? You could check its install script to see what install loads and where. You might also use something like Norton System Works to cleanup the registry after uninstall. After all that, rebooting should eliminate any remnants active in memory.

Second Tanker Bob, do clean your registry w/ Norton, jv16 PowerTools (which I use) , TuneUp Utilities 2004 , System mechanic , etc. Most probably it will solve the problem. (it's good to have one of those on your PC anyway , if you don't have one)

Thanks for the replies. Yep, did most of the above, deleted, nortoned, regedited till I'm blue in the face!
Install script?...wheres that then?
I read a thread where in addition to un-installation, various files needed to be deleted from somewhere. Thought it was in aximsite, must have been somewhere else!

I'm not sure it will work with AS4, but look at Chris De Herrera's Removing ActiveSync 3.X

If worse comes to worst, and you are really sparing nothing to remove AS4 (and also depending on when you installed it), you can go into safe mode and system restore to a time before when you installed AS4 for the first time, so that any refernce to that program will not exist and any dirty system drivers that may be causing issues can also be purged.
Well, it is an extreme solution, but if THAT doesn't solve it, I don't know what could. So, if worse comes to worst, try that, and good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. Yeh, system restore would have been an option, except that WinXP in its wisdom, deleted all prior checkpoints when it was low on disk space! :(
