Look through Chris De Herrera's ActiveSync Troubleshooting Guide for help resolving the items.

For the name, go to Start, Settings, System (tab), About, Device ID (tab). Once you change the name, you'll need to set up a new partnership with your PC.

Start up Microsoft Activsync. Go to tools -> options and uncheck everythign you don't want sync'd.

As for changing the name, on your PPC go to Start -> Settings -> Systems Tab -> About -> Device ID. Change the name to whatever you want.

The next time you sync it will change the name for you.

I looked around M$ but could find your exact error message but similar messages occur when you use incompatable versions of Outlook and ActiveSync. Which versions of these programs are you using?

No I don't know how to fix it. The only suggestion I can make is that you try ActiveSync 3.8 from M$. if you are not already using it.

Did you, by chance, have your USB Cable/Cradle already connected to your PC before you installed ASync?

If so, Disconnect it, UNinstall ASync, reboot your PC, REinstall ASync WITHOUT the Cable/Cradle attached to your PC.

Missen I think I can help you with part two of your question. When you set up the parnership it gives you two options one is reg the other is guest partnership. Try deleting the partnership and setting up a new partnership and selecting the first option. I dont know if this will help but make sure your owner info is entered in the pda.
