MS takes a step backward in their quest to become the #1 OS on smartphones

Guess we'll have to wait till next year for devices with BT v2.0 speeds

I installed this version here at work as I sync my axim at home only, or remotely (work, gf's) over wifi or gprs through VPN.

It seems there is no wifi sync

I will definently not upgrading to Windows Mobile 5 and new active sync if this doesn't get changed. How can this be a step forward?

it(4.0) still isn't showing up on the mircrsoft site as a regular download. When you look at wm2005 pages they still are recommending tha you use AS3.8 so, still holding my breath that it will work wifi. :approve: but turning blue!!!

Nope, it's been confirmed at PocketPC Thoughts that there is no WiFi support in AS 4.0 except for Exchange Servers. Removed for "security" reasons.

Link.

AS and WM5

So you have read that WM5 and AS4.0 are NOT linked?
in otherwords I can upgrade to WM5 and still use AS 3.8

No -- WM5 requires AS4. What they were saying is that MS doesn't say that existing 2002/2003 users should upgrade to AS4 yet.

several people mentioned using Active Sync 3.7. instead of the 3.8.

What kind of problems are there with the 3.8 that keep you from using it?

I am just wondering if i am missing something, thanks

What about using a program like AlarIT Virtual USB Driver to sync remotely? If it does what it says it will, it sounds like it would work. if you try it please post.

Cannot install ASv4

I cannot even get AS4 to install, all that happens is that the set up runs and jumps to a screen that says the wizard was interupted before the installation could complete. I've turned off NIS, and still no difference, any ideas?

Add me to list of disgruntled 3.8 / 4 victims

My X50V had run smooth as a baby's **** since Nov/04 with rather intensive programs installed. Since upgrading to 3.8 no connection upon sync. I am joining the revert to 3.7 club until this is remedied. I prefer the wireless synch method anyway.
