Microsoft ActiveSync is the latest and significantly improved synchronization software for Microsoft Windows Powered Pocket PCs. It is easy to install and use and offers the best levels of reliability yet. It also brings you up to date with compatibility to Microsoft Office XP and Windows XP. It will automatically detect and configure the port that is used to connect a device to a PC, whether a serial port or an infrared port is chosen. In addition to serial and infrared connections, it supports Ethernet and dial-up connections and supports both wired and wireless implementations of those standards.
confirm that it does not work over your network. i don't see a reference in the help about syncing over the network and i couldn't get it to work. now i'm removing and reverting to 3.7.
Is this the OFFICIAL ActiveSync 4? or is it just the same old leaked copy that everyone else has? I won't consider wireless syncing out until I actually use a new version of activesync from microsoft's website, and a WM2005 PDA is actually released that can't sync wirelessly with it.

It's a link to the Microsoft Website.

I would say it is still a "leaked" copy although it might be a newer build. Avantgo doesn't work right. I did see an option to remove AS 4.0 so maybe if it doesn't work you can remove it & reinstall AS 3.8 until the official AS 4.0 build comes along.
Patiently waiting for it to show up in the regular download section. The link takes you to a MS page but I can't seem to find it listed anywhere else. If they have removed it there will be a major outcry from a lot of people.. it is one of the few good things about AS in the first place.
It's pretty sad that it's moving in reverse in features... Can anyone confirm that they intend to keep network sync in as a feature? I did not see a reference to it in the help section...
I was able to safely remove it and reinstall 3.8, but I have not been able to reestablish a full network sync yet. It detects it and the pc says it's connected, however the PPC does not.
I tried ActiveSync 4 today (at the same time I upgraded from A01 to A03, stupid me :) ). The software installer hung when trying to re-install my bluetooth keyboard. Dell tech support suggested terminating ActiveSync on the Axim and the problem was resolved. I'll be going back to 3.8 for now since it doesn't look like 4.0 is ready for prime time yet. (That's probably why you don't see 4.0 when you search the Microsoft Pocket PC site.)

I've tried a few times to uninstall 4.0 and then reinstall 3.8. When it's finished I get an error message saying that some registry file entries were not able to be created or installed and AS may not run properly. As far as Avantgo goes, I was able to sync the channels through the Axim connected to my laptop's internet connection, it's impossible to set it up in AS 4.0 right now.
