ActiveSync Why has it taken so long for this category?

ActiveSync 3.8 fails after shut off
I use ActiveSync 3.8 on Win XP Sp2 and a Dell Axim 50v via USB:

After two days (got my Axim only a week ago) of doing well I'm only able to sync after a soft boot of my Axim. After shutting it off and on again for the first time after rebooting only my PC recognises the Axim as USB device but ActiveSync on my PC doesn't "find" it anymore. Also a new "connect" from ActiveSync on the PC is not able to find the Axim device.

Any idea what went wrong: is it the ActiveSync on my PC or the PDA's ActiveSync? And how to tackle this?
