I made the mistake of trying out ActiveSync 4. I couldnt use some proprietary software so decided to revert back to 3.8. Managed to do this but now can only log in as Guest. No option given to set up a partnership. - as suggested on another board
I uninstalled 4 removed Rapi.dll from win32 folder removed the Profiles folder from Activesync folder in Docs & settings. Didnt work and I know I am not the only one. Anyone got any suggestions | ||||

Did you delete your partnership? Check to see if your previous partnership still exists. If it does, just delete it and you should be able to set up a new partnership using the same name.

Disconnect your Axim from the cradle. Open up Activesync. Go to File>Delete Partnership then choose what you want deleted. You should then be able to set up a new partnership next time you put the Axim on the cradle. Don't forget to do a backup to a CF or SD card before going through this process, just in case there's a problem.

I am actually in the same boat as you, now. I purchased software that won't download. I found out from the manufacturer that it is likely an AS 4.0 problem. I tried to go back to 3.8, and I can't sync. I can't even open the program. Mine never even gets as far as setting up a relationship. It makes me wonder if MS did something with 4.0 that prevents going backwards with version #'s. Hopefully someone can offer an idea.

Look at these two posts for possible solutions to uninstalling AS4.0:
