Automatic Guest Only Access

First of all, this hack isn't for everyone. I just use it because I never require anything more than guess access. Also, my links go up and down a lot too -- especially if you test sleep mode while debugging applications. So clicking that silly dialog everytime gets quite annoying.

This hack will cause active sync to automatically default to guess access for any PDA.

1) Open regedit.exe
2) Create a registry key at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows CE Services/GuestOnly. The key should be of type DWORD and have a value of 1. As always, the registry is NOT case sensitive, so if the case doesn't match, it doesn't matter.
3) Close regedit.exe. There's no save option because registry changes are comitted immediately.

If you later change your mind on the default behavior of Active Sync, then just open regedit and delete the GuestOnly key. Don't delete anything else for heaven's sake!

As always, you're putting your computer and the whole planet at risk once you open regedit, so be very careful.

This would have worked well for me about 2 weeks ago. A friend of mine brought over his old Jornada (which used to be mine back in the day, sold it to him when I got my previous PPC, an iPaq 1945,) and we were installing a bunch of software up on it. *Every* time it connected I had to make sure I checked guest.
