Question Yet another problem with ActiveSync

Hi folks,
I ran into a new problem with ActiveSync, which I can reproduce with either AS 3.8 or 4.0 : let's call it 'Error 10054', which is the number of the error found in the log.
Basically, I can connect using guest access with no problem at all, but as soon as I want to connect using a normal profile, AS reports either an error (AS4.0) or run forever without ever syncing (AS3.8) while the PPC ends the communication very soon.
This happens after a hard-reset, and backup restore.
This also happens afer a soft-reset, of course.
No matter how many checkboxes are left checked in the 'what to sync' selection dialog, it never works.
But : after a hard-reset, and without restoring the backup, it works !!!
So I guess something in my PPC is keeping AS from running correctly, but what ? I guess I could try to reinstall everything one at a time, then test, then try the next program... but it would take a long time and a lot of efforts !
Any ideas ? Google is not helpful in this case...

Cheers,
David.

PS : I'm fed up with AS, which always messes up with my data, and never works as advertised... I lost track of the number of times I reset and reinstalled my PPC because of AS ! Shame on Microsoft !

Surprisingly enough, the problem solved itself when a friend of mine gave me a Motorola Mpx200 smartphone. I upgraded the smartphone to MS Smartphone 2003 and connected it to ActiveSync (new install of 3.8), and (out of curiosity) I tried connecting the X50 to the same ActiveSync (not at the same time, of course) : it worked !
