Critical Communications Error

So i have found a bunch of people with this problem but i have yet to find an answer....

Sometime within the past week my activesync 3.7 stopped working. It loads and when i connect my axim 50v and the icon turns green. However when i click on the green icon in the taskbar nothing happens. i can click on it all day long but nothing ever opens. If i right click on the icon and select "explore" i get the "Critical communications services have failed to start. Try resetting the mobile device and then connect again." error.

I read something somewhere else about software firewalls and one may have been put into place when i recently set up a VPN but i uninstalled the VPN network, restored my computer to a week ago, and turned off all windows firewall settings and it still does not work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled activesync about 15 times (versions 3.7, 3.8, and 4.0) and that did not fix the problem either. i also did the thinggy from microsofts website about adding the registry entry that is supposed to fix the problem (didnt work).

I am going to try and sync my axim on my girlfriends computer tonight to rule out problems with my axim and my usb cradle but i really think the problem is with my laptop. I also have soft reset my axim a bunch of times throughout this process.

Does anyone know what is going on or have any other ideas.

My only other option at this point is to format my laptop to get it all working again but obviously i would like to avoid having to do this. Thanks in advance.

Yes, I always have the same problem with you. Furthermore, when I synchronize my X50v, it was shown on my laptop that synchronizing the following folders...., but it will never be finished, and after a while it failed. But I can only synchronize it as a guest. Why?!

I am still a fresh newbie to Axim, but I recently had this problem on my work desktop. Turned out that I had some pretty nasty viruses/spyware that were preventing activesync from starting up properly. We had to nuke all that #$%^ first, reboot the 'puter and soft reset Axim. So far, so good (knocking very loudly on any available wood).....

i have a problem with my norton firewall. everytime i sync over usb, the firewall asks me 10 times if i want to let activesync access the internet. although i always tell the firewall to remember the answer, it reappears everytime i sync with the docking station, when i use a bt connection everything is fine.

i have also had some trouble when i installed a voice recorder software on my x50v. this software was blocking the whole connections to my x50v, the only solution was to uninstall the voice recorder. After uninstalling i could sync again, and all the network connections were working again!
