I've really really tried, but I have WiFi synch issues
Hi guys.
Apologies for such an early post/first thread being a question, but I'm honestly stumped. I'll start with what I have done:- hung around here for a few weeks, before, and then with my x50v, been through Frenchy's tutorials, taken IkeHiker's site word for word, all of which helped no end in getting me wirelessed in the first place! Top guides and answers one and all, thanks.
I'm definately logged onto my network - PPC shows the IP address, and my NetGear Router shows the Dell's MAC address. I have access to the 'Net from the PPC, so no worries there. I can also sync from the cradle, no worries either. ActivSync 3.8, by the way.
What I can't do for some reason is sync over WiFi... I have been through all the posts I can find, and tried as much as I can think of - deleting the partnership and starting again, disabling the firewall, re-enabling, opening the ports, soft resets: still nothing. When I start ActivSync from the PPC it just (eventually) gives me the message "Cannot start communications with the desktop computer. Reconnect your device..."
Is this just another bizarre case of an x50v not being able to for no apparent reason? Any thoughts massively appreciated, an thanks in advance.
JB

Which version of AS are you using? I got that same message when I tried to Wifi sync with version 3.8. Try uninstalling that and installing 3.7, if you indeed are using 3.8
EDIT: Oh and try setting both networks to 'My Work Network' in Settings >> Connections >> Advanced

AS3.8 works fine for wireless sync, it's just the Allow network and RAS... box (under the File menu, Connection settings... on the PC) is unchecked by default in 3.8 but since this is pointed out in the Guide, I assume this isn't JB's problem. My best guess is a firewall. The one that interfers without the user's knowledge most frequestly is the built-in one on WinXP SP2. Even when it's disabled, it can interfer (thanks, M$). I think your best option is to enable it and see if you can allow the PPC access while it's on. Also, if you are using ZoneAlarm, you need to stop it from loading on bootup (not just disabling it after it's started. It, too, continues doing things in the background when you think it is off.

I was having the same issues until I hit the "Connect to:" check box in the Odyssey Client. Also, the WLAN has to be turned on.

Thanks for coming back so quickly, all. Afraid that I've drawn a blank so far, but no worries. It's nothing critical in any case, just trying to make the most of what I've got!
I'll give checking that box in Odyssey a try - it's not something I've been able to get connected with so far, having played with the stock WLAN Utility, so I'll see if that will work...
I'm on AVG anti-virus, so I'll play with the settings in that, too.
No ZoneAlarm installed, and there's no warnings from the M$ firewall that indicate anything is trying to connect. It's like the PPC just isn't networked...
Thanks again for your help, here. I'll try and let this thread drift away unless I find the answer and solution!
Cheers.
JB

Another update (after a blissfully event-free weekend which allowed me to tinker!)
I had an inkling that it might be a workgroup issue (i.e. something in the router preventing my Axim talking to my desktop), but it appears not - over the weekend, I've had a play around. I can access files in the Shared Documents folder of my desktop over the network, but still no Sync. How bizarre.
One of life's little mysteries, it appears! This evening (unless my mother turns up!) I'm going to play with Odyssey properly and see what happens.
Curiouser and curiouser.

i'm having a problem syncing wirelessly too (AS 3.7.1). i fixed all the settings, just like the tutorial on this site said. when I sync my ppc, the green AS icon lights up for a few seconds, then everything stops - no syncing takes place. zone alarm isn't the problem - i've allowed the IP of my ppc (before i did that, it didn't connect at all). any other suggestions?
