AirScanner have published a security advisory regarding remotely syncing using ActiveSync 3.7.1 and 3.8.

For more information see this thread on the SBSH forums.

I wouldn't upgrade to ActiveSync 4.0 for this main reason. I enjoy the ability to sync wirelessly within my home (not when I'm not at home).

The security advisory is on ActiveSync 3.7.1 and 3.8 - not on ActiveSync 4.0 (because they have removed the remote syncing).

As I said in my comments, I wonder whether Microsoft have got a new version of remote syncing up their sleeves which will be available for the new WM2005 (or later) - anyone know?

Sorry - didn't want people to think the issue was to do with ActiveSync 4.0.

Apparently ActiveSync 4.0 is a complete rewrite to "make it better" (a quote from an MS presenter at the recent MEDC conference at Reading, UK - he too seemed unsure whether it was really any "better"...).

Anyway, keeps us MS users entertained and busy :)
