PPC Backup spontaneously shuts down desktop
Has anyone got any familiarity with this problem?
When I try to backup my x50v using Activesync's backup utility it gets a bit past half, then my desktop spontaneously shuts itself off. No warning of any kind, just a sudden loss of power. When I try to restart the computer I get a few more half-reboots then shut downs before I'm back up and running. I'd be grateful for any insights! Dave

It's not an answer to your current problem but it would be worth investing in Sprite, even download the trial and use that. You need to isolate the cause of this; have you tried unistalling and reinstalling AS? I'm no expert and will leave the tech stuff to those who are but a reinstall might help and it might be worth using Task Manager to see what is running at the same time and posting it in case anyone knows of a specific conflict that may result in this. Also post which version of AS you're using.
Sorry not much help but hope its a start

Problem solved, and Activesync's not to blame. The CPU fan on my desktop croaked, causing the system to overheat and shut off. I assume PDA backups are CPU-intensive but it may simply have been coincidence. Thanks Alastair for offering your help! Dave
