Please help. Can't CONNECT. I have tried everything...
I've tried everything I have read...
Soft reset
Hard reset
Reinstalled latest Sync software
USB ports are available (tried all of them, same results)
The Axim X3 was working fine. Then all of a sudden I had a black screen and it wouldn't power up. I was on the road so I couldn't sync, but I recharged (I lost all memory). When I got home, I put the unit in the cradle and couldn't get it to connect. It showed that it was recharging, but no connection for sync-ing. I'm new at this and I don't know what else to do.
Ted - What exactly happens when you try to connect to your PC?
Does the activesync symbol show any activity on the PC?
Have you had any error messages?
Has anything occured when you try to sync, or is there no reaction whatsoever on both the PC and the PPC?

After it is on and functioning, I place my Axim in the cradle.
The Axim screen lights up, but the ActiveSync icon in my tray doesn't react.
If I manually turn on ActiveSync, the box says NOT CONNECTED.
When I try "Get Connected", I get the proper box that ends up telling me that Com 1 and Com 3 are available, and the USB is available. But that's the end of it. No error messages.
This unit worked fine until all of a sudden it quit. I keep it in a metal case and it is well protected.
Ted - have you changed your firewall settings at all?
can you ensure that activesync is okayed in your firewall list?
also, do you have another computer in which you could try to sync?
have you tried other devices in your USB ports? (just checking to be sure!)
After you did the hard reset, did you try to sync BEFORE installing any software on the PPC?
was there any software on the PC that was installed immediately prior to the problems with sync'ing?
Best of luck.

Nothing has changed on my PC. I sync'd just prior to leaving on a trip. Remember, the Axim blacked out the day before I returned home and I tried to sync (to enter all the data I had lost when it died on the road). That's when I realized it would no longer connect. No software changes. I just applied my regular routine (as described in the previous post).
It's weird how dependent we become on these machines. I've already started looking at replacements, though I'd prefer to get this one working.
In any case, I appreciate your efforts. Take care, Ted
Well, just trying some diagnostics...but I'm at a loss.
I'm wondering if the reason your device went "dead" on your trip was a type of mechanical problem, which is affecting your sync.
I guess I would call Dell support, and see if they will replace it. Don't know how long you've had yours, and Dell support can be a pain in the *** but they've done okay by me.
I know that's probably not what you wanted to hear, and it's hard to not have your device when you rely on it as much as we do. Best of luck!

Axim X 3 to be trashed according to Dell customer service
Well, today I called Dell. Spent more time on hold than talking to anyone. Spoke to a Diego, a John, and a supervisor named Jason. All sounded like they were in Ceylon. Or Bangladesh. I didn't realize Jason was a popular name in that part of the world. I guess it's less expensive that way. After over 2 hours on the phone, nothing was resolved. :rolling:
They were more interested in an accurate address than rectifying my problem. One tech told me that the X3 couldn't be fixed and I'd have to buy a new one. Really. Jason, the supervisor, promised a resolution, and then transferred me to a line I had been put on hold an hour earlier.
It's pretty apparent that the sync plug on the Axim is screwed up. The pins look bad. A replacement female plug was all I was looking for. Not free. I'd pay. But, Dell doesn't do those kinds of repairs. Nope. Buy a new one. That's their advice. I ordered a new Palm today. I've had it with Dell. I appreciate those of you that tried to help.

Take care, Ted :approve:
That's a bummer. My usb sync cable doesn't work either for a different reason. I plug it in and nothing happens and if it does I have to angle it down to work at which I get: USB not recognized.
