ActiveSync - Why has it taken so long for this category?

Restoring to New Axim
The screen on my wife's X30 went bad (the glass isn't cracked, but all the screen shows is wavy colored lines. I know this is a well-known problem.) I managed to do a backup (and, I believe, I remembered to synchronize it too). Then we went and bought a new X50.

I had promised her that I could restore her old data to the new X50, but ActiveSync tells me I can't. Either its a newer version of Windows CE or PPC, or the hardware machines aren't compatible. I also tried creating a partnership on the new machine with the same name as the old one, hoping I could sync with the old partnership that is on the desktop, but ActiveSync wouldn't let me make a new partnership with an existing name.

Now what? How can we get the data onto the new Axim?


Also, does anybody want to buy a used X30 with a bad screen?

If it's just Outlook data you want to transfer, that should be no problem. When you sync the X50 for the first time, everything from Outlook should transfer over. However, you cannot use the same device name unless you delete the X30 partnership first by going to File - Delete Partnership on the desktop ActiveSync. Alternatively, you can just use a different device name. Programs you will have to manually reinstall.

If you want to sell the X30, use the Classified forum.
