At home I use a PCMCIA wireless network card (at work I use a CAT5 cable). I just pull the wireless card when I leave the house in the morning. Windows doesn't prompt me to stop the wireless card when I want to remove it, unlike most other peripherals (removable HD, CD ROM drive, etc.)

I don't sync my X50 at home, so I will "Killsync" before I leave work today and start Activesync tomorrow morning after I've opened the lid and plugged the cradle back in. We’ll see…

Strange, when I had a wireless card in my laptop, I needed to stop the device before removing it, it was in the Unplug/Eject hardware list. You could try that also to see if it helps.

Search Microsoft's support website http://support.microsoft.com for Article 817900, "USB port may stop working after removing or inserting USB device.

It is strange because that's the only thing that I'm NOT prompted to close before removing/ejecting. I have to close everything else I use i.e.: USB Bluetooth adapter, USB jump/flash drive, CD Rom drive, removable HD, 3.5" floppy drive, etc.

As a matter of fact... I don't even have the unplug/eject hardware option when the PCMCIA wireless card is in, so I can't remove it that way.

That didn't work either. I had to reboot this morning and yesterday morning. I suppose the good news is that my laptop gets a fresh start every day!

This is frustrating, it definitely has to be hardware related, but what is causing it

Is you laptop setup to go to suspend mode or hibernation when you close the cover?

What OS are you running on the laptop?

My laptop is setup to go into "Stand by" mode when I close the lid. I'm not sure what that does however. The only other 2 options are "do nothing" and "Hibernate". I tried "do nothing" once and left my laptop in its carrying case for hours... when I opened the case I thought my laptop had melted!

Also, I'm using XP Pro.

You're right, setting it to do nothing and then putting it in a case is asking for trouble, system keeps running, but has no way to vent the heat generated...

Oh well, need to keep thinking about a solution.

PCWorld has an article in the new issue about fixing USB issues:

"The Hassle: When my system comes back from hibernation or standby mode, some of my USB devices just keep on dozing.

The Fix: That happens because Windows XP wants to conserve power, so it turns off the USB root hubs. You can change the default setting: Open Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance (if in Category view), System, Hardware, Device Manager, and click Universal Serial Bus controllers. Double-click USB Root Hub, choose the Power Management tab, and then uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Repeat this procedure with each occurrence of a USB root hub. On a notebook, this trick will cost you some battery life."

"Yet another problem solver: Determine whether your PC has the most current USB drivers with Intel's free ."
USB Ready "

From what you said, when you get to work in the morning, the computer DOES recognize that you plugged in your PPC and it tries to connect but fails? Or is it that only the PPC tries to connect?

And out of curiosity, why do u remove your wifi card? Have you ever tried plugging in the dock the next morning with the card still in? If you could do that, that would tell us if the card is the problem (if it works)...

To clarify my previous message, what tries to connect? PC, PPC, or both?

No Dock/Port Replicator involved, asked and answered in a prior post.

Reason for removing the WiFi card is probably so it doesn't get snapped off when put into a laptop bag.

I'm talking about the Axim's dock.

And I didn't realize the card would stick out... mine doesn't. Anyway, what happens if u bring it to work and plug it back in b4 opening the comp (and don't take it out till u close the comp so it's never out while the comp is on)?
