I have to reboot every morning!
Why do I have to reboot my laptop every morning for ActiveSync to recognize a connection?
I use a laptop at work that is connected to my X50 in its cradle. I bring my laptop home every night. My X50 cradle stays at work on my desk. I never shut down Windows or power off my laptop when I'm going home at the end of the day - I just close the lid. When I get home I just attach to my WiFi and power supply for the evening/night. In the morning I close my laptop (just close the lid, I don't power it down) and go to work. When I get to work, I plug my cradle in to the USB port and place my X50 in it. It tries to connect but unsuccessfully. I have to reboot my laptop every morning to establish a connection and get a successful sync. Can anyone come up with a solution for this "rebooting every morning" issue? Thanks.

I wonder if the laptop goes into suspend mode when you close the lid and that's causing problems.
In the meantime, try using KillSync This will kill AS and allow you to restart without having to reboot the computer.

Gary,
I'll try KillSync. I won't know until Monday morning if it works or not, but either way, I'll let you know. Thanks.

There's also ReSync which will stop and then restart AS automatically.
Good luck:)

It's Monday morning and I had to reboot again. I tried both Resync and Killsync. I even reinstalled Activesync and it still didn't work.
I don't get it... I take it in and out of its cradle numerous times a day without any problems. It just doesn't want to connect after a night away from the office.
Gary, you may be right, once the laptop goes into "suspend" mode that somehow disables the program!?!?!

If Killsync & Resync didn't work, then I don't think it's an AS issue.
I'm now thinking that going into suspend mode might somehow be messing up your USB ports.
When you go home, do you remove the Axim before closing the lid?
Another thing to try is unplugging the cradle from the laptop and then plugging it back in; this might force a device discovery.

Sometimes I remove my X50 before I close the lid and sometimes I remove it afterwards. It doesn't seem to make a difference either way.
But I always plug the cradle into the laptop in the morning before opening the lid and taking it out of suspend mode. Tomorrow morning I'll try opening the lid before plugging the cradle into the USB port.

Now don't take me as a guru on computers or anything but with my Dell laptop, anytime I take out of its station, I need to re-boot it in order to connect to my network at work. I think you might be running into a similar problem with AS.
Just my 2 cents

I thought of that also, but he doesn't say he has one, and writes that he plugs the cradle into the USB port.
If he does have a port replicator or docking station, then that most likely is his problem; some laptops don't like being remove from the docks unless they're powered down, or ejected properly.

Nope, the start-up sequence in the morning doesn't make a difference! I had to reboot again this morning.
I don't have a docking station. I have a Dell C610 laptop with the following connections:
Network cable
Power supply cable
USB connection for my X50 cradle.

Ok, now you're making it tougher :)
On the laptop, is the wireless built-in, or do you use a PCMCIA card? If using a card, do you stop the card before removing it?
Another thing to try is using KillSync before taking the laptop home and then restart AS in the morning after opening the cover and plugging in the cradle.
