Definitely worth the money and there are great deals to be found. I ended up getting one for 149.00, as a new subscriber on Verizon.

As a long time iPhone user, and user of many other devices, I can say, without doubt, Droid is my best phone yet. The OS rocks and the community around it is growing fast, so expect lots of cool apps and improvements. The Droid itself is really nice, good quality build. I just wish the volume was on the right side as it gets in the way. Droid rocks!

I agree with everything that dirk1 says ... but one thing - it has the *worst* physical keyboard I have *ever* used. I've been a PDA guy since the HPLX days, had all of the HP's, early Blackberry, Psion, Palm & iPaq with thumboards, Toshiba Libretto 'chicklets', and so on. This is worse than anything. Even worse than my old Verizon Samsung 'Alias' ...

I think its the OS that has potential. Being open source is such an advantage over the iphone OS, also being built on linux means its probably pretty stable. i dont write programs, but I imagine its easier to port something from linux to android than from something else.

Open source has provided some good programs before such as firefox and open office. Googling these shows that they are being made for the android.
