Worried a bit of direction for a lost newbie

hello group.

one of my family members is giving me their "old" itouch (i think it is the first generation 8gb version)

I have owned only palm OS units (palm III, platinum, clie) and then PPC (axim 50v and now HP 211/14) and only have owned windows based computers...so I am lost in the realm of the mac speak.

Is there any easy guide (google this time gives way too many hits and often worthless sites) out there for someone to understand what is out there....accessories (and safe places to buy them), recommendations (granted it is an old unit, but still....), and even how to install programs on the thing....

Many thanks and sorry for all the newbie questions

Ceril

Always nice to come across a fellow Palm III series user .
Anyways, if it's a book you're looking for, I've always been a fan of "Dummies" books, and they have one for the iPod touch (Amazon has it). This would be a good place to start.
Even without the book, though, you'll get the hang of the Touch pretty quickly; IMO it's much easier to use than a PPC.

Zacharace - thanks for the time you took to answer me.

I have been looking over lots of forums as a quick guide for the ipod virign. There are very few explanations out there, but at least on the Apple site, I downloaded the user manual and actually read it. It still remains a bit esoteric in that I will recieve the itocuh from my mom only in October - so I cannot just "test drive" it.

I will check into the dummy book that you recommended - I have used others on other subjects.

Palm III ruled...sort of! :) It at least got me started with this crazy gadget loving obsession! :)

Again thanks.

Ceril,
No problem; always happy to help.
The user manual is always a good place to start. Maybe I can offer more direct assistance: What specific questions do you have?
It started my obsession as well :)

I never actually thought that way with the books. I am like more of trial and error method. However welcome to the apple club.
