They removed the old one that was free from the site.... or did they? Another site posted a link to an .exe install of the old version. It doesn't work anymore. But I changed it to .zip and it did work (a hunch since sometines sites give you a choice of either)

Surely, this must be a mistake. I Will never buy a piece of software for $500 and neither will most PPC owners.
Sorry, it's not a mistake. It is, however, ludicrous.
I actually found that if you go to the google cached macromedia site, you can still download the plugin for free.

I didn't see the other post until a few minutes ago. I just wanted to make sure that anyone that wants the flash player can get it while it is there at Macromedia.

I guess I am just not understanding why Macromedia is goign to make people pay such an insane amount of money so that they may surf the web. Does this mean that any of the current web pages I frequent that use flash will no longer be accessible? Of couse for a mere $500...
I guess I am also missing who the market is for this. What Pocket PC owner is going to pay $500 for a piece of software? I though for sure they must have meant $50. I'll miss flash on my PPC.

Check the other thread about this. The software that now costs $499 is to make programs that use flash built in. Not the same thing as flash on websites that use flash player. I will have to look for the link, but flash player (the one used to view flash on websites) is now going to be embeded into windows.

Yah.. everybody knows that its a bundled software now which is capable of doing a lot more. but the point is that the Flash player 6 plugin itself is not free anymore. Why they did this baffles me. Of course ppl who need it will find the player on different sites.. but downloading that will be illegal.
On their site I saw a list of PPCs (limited) that come with flash player. Are you saying that in the future ALL the PPCs/PIE will come with flash player embedded?

Macromedie Flash Pro 8 doesn't include the viewer for PPC, only the option to compile and exe that suports it... so if you buy it you still won't be able to vie flash animations in PIE.
Previously Macromedia charged for buying the STANDALONE version of flash player that enables you to run the flash movie without the need of a browser. This cost $400-600.
The site just says the plugin is not available for download anymore.

The Standalone Flash Player 6 for Pocket PC is an application that you install on your Pocket PC which allows you to view Flash content full screen without being embedded in an HTML page. It also allows you to create distributable .exe files of your Flash content with the Flash Player 6 for Pocket PC bundled with it." Macromedia.com
