I'd think this would be a fairly common question/desire, but is there any utilities that would allow the Axim to just be seen as a USB drive when plugging it into a computer, instead of having to install and use ActiveSync?
I'm not sure I understand. What do you mean, need a desktop version too? Do you mean I still have to install something to the desktop machine in order to use this utility?

I don't think a desktop component is necessary; that's the whole idea behind it - just bring your USB cable and that's it. Why don't you give the demo a try?
I know when I first installed AS v3.7 I had an option in the Send To... box of Windows Explorer of My Device. Then I could select that and choose the destination where I wanted the file stored on my Axim.
However, seems once I upgraded to v3.8 that feature vanished. It was a very useful feature for me.
Any way one could get that back?

Did you by any chance have Resco Explorer installed? I know that it adds this feature; the feature is not removed even after the demo has expired.

Correct. No desktop component required, at least for any OS that will recognize a memory stick (Win 2000, Win XP, OSX, etc.) Works well on my home machine (Win XP) . Somewhat flaky on my work machine (Win 2000). Given that any sizable file transfers happen at home, that's okay for me.
Ok. I was referring to ksong12's comment (and I definitely agree that it would defeat the purpose if it required a desktop app to be installed). I'll give the demo a try. Thank you!
You can easily switch between Activesync and having the cards recognized as a usb memory stick, though you do have to disconnect to switch between modes.

Ahh, that must of been it. I had Resco in till I found it was not as functional as File Explorer was.
(Tried to find why a file was trying to load up when rebooting the Axim. Looked at the Start Up folder, registry entries, even the empty folder. When I tried to delete the folder and got an error message that a file was in use, did I see the issue. Resco was not seeing All Files. I used File Explorer, saw the file in the Start Up folder, checked with Rescoe again to compare, Resco still did not see it. - So removed the file, rebooted, deleted the offending folder {Norton AntiVirus btw - garbage, resource hog} and things back to normal. Then removed Resco.)
