Magic Button or VBar

Well, my X51v has shipped from Dell, and even though it hasn't even arrived yet, I have spent most of the weekend researching and downloading software.

I'm certain that there will be much trial and error, but as I want to get up and going as quickly as possible, I am looking for as many suggestions as people are willing to give.

As a PalmOS refugee, the Today screen is still a bit of a mystery to me. I have read many fine posts, including Tanker Bob's great page on migration from Palm to PPC.

My current plans for Today tweaks include cLaunch (because I really want tabs and icons) and either vBar or Magic Button, which as far as I can tell do the same thing as each other. I am leaning towards Magic Button.

I eagerly await your advice!

magic button or vBar

Having tried both magicbutton and vBar, I use MB because it's prettier than vBar (though you can use your own icons in vbar and thus could fix the ugliness). I also appreciate being able to see which programs are currently running by just by looking at the top of the screen (versus clicking a button in vBar).

vBar does seem slightly snappier (though I haven't used it enough to say for sure). You can always try them both.

MagicButton 2.0 was released a few days ago and includes compatibility with WM5. I've noticed though that the 2.0 version has a slight problem with locking up the titlebar while using the dell wireless utility (not a real big deal).

By the way, I just upgraded to an x50v two weeks ago from a handspring Visor edge. The axim is quite a jump from palm os 3.5, I'm still getting confused, but I'm learning and I think the axim is great. :approve:

Having used both recently, I went back to MB. vBar's got too much bells and whistles -- and I found it too small when using in VGA mode.

I've used both.. and am happy with either. The main reason I'm in the magic button camp at the moment is a clash between vbar and sprite backup. There is a work around but it's easier just to use Magic button.

Still try them both, they're free

I can not seem to get the new magic button version to work well with WM5! It still looks ugly as if it would not blend in with the WM5 colors. Any suggestions?

I upgrade my X50v to WM5 and had no problems with claunch on my device, instead using Magic button or vbar I use GS Pocket Magic is free as well and works great.

I was using SPB PocketPlus but I got an email from the author of MB telling me about the new update WM5 compatible and I gave it a try again... and... that's the one I'm using right now.

Does magic button look fine running on WM 5? Mine shows the old style look and it is not blending in with WM 5 like it states.

VBAR all the way! I tried MB and my Axim seemed to slow down noticeably. Of course, it may have not been MB's fault, but I like VBAR and it works well for me on my x50v. I don't have WM5 though.

vBar seems to run better on my X50v with WM5. I tried Magic Button but I hate their logo. It's ugly and I hate having it looking at me from the top of my desktop.

I made vBar icons to make it look nice in WM5, made a post a couple days ago about it. I also like having the battery meter and memory in the top right corner.
