Socket Wi-Fi Companion is an intuitive and graphical utility that displays your connection properties at a glance. There’s even a Power Save utility, so you can adjust the power settings when using battery power.
Basic features:
Wi-Fi Companion provides users with a friendly, easy-to-use interface to manage WLAN connectivity. The main page icons provide single tap access to browse the web or check email, find WLANs in range, install security certificates, view IP addresses or modify profiles.
The Ping Utility enables users to check network connectivity to another device or host network. Trace Route enables users to identify the number of hops to connect to the Internet and possible sources of delay.

In other words, it has a better display of what is going on, where the issues are instead of guessing, and providing utilties to improve/track performance. You still have to enter the data. I know it sure tracked down my issues, although one time is did not help solve it. A hard reset did fix. (There is no auto-fix like in WinXP.)
Edit: Notation Added. I was in Staples today, found a Kingston WiFi Finder. It found a connection, while in the display package still. Opened up the Axim, fired up WiFi, and WiFi Companion found the Sleep Inn's wireless. It auto-configured and I was surfing in two seconds, no input required. (Though the connection had no encryption.)
