I installed it without uninstalling 3.6 and it completely dragged down my system. I had to reboot three times - the last into Safe mode on W2K Pro in order to uninstall it, after which point the drag on the system went away.
Going to try reinstalling 3.7 fresh.

Installing from scratch after the uninstall worked fine. Chalk that up to bad testing on MS's part. If they don't want you to upgrade, they shouldn't let you try.

Here is "whats new" according to Mauricio Freitas in the Microsoft PPC Newsgroup.
|
Quote:
|
Feature: Improved remote synchronization experience.
Benefit: ActiveSync no longer blocks remote synchronization with dialog
boxes that pop up on your desktop computer, so you can slide in the WLAN or
wireless modem card and synchronize with your desktop computer anywhere you
can access your network.
Feature: Configure server synchronization settings from your PC.
Benefit: ActiveSync can synchronize information on your desktop PC and/or a
Microsoft Exchange Server with the information on your mobile device. This
requires Microsoft Mobile Information Server 2002 or later.
Feature: ActiveSync pass-through connection.
Benefit: Enables you to use your USB cradle connection to pass through your
desktop PC to access the Internet or a network with your mobile device. You
can then perform tasks, such as browsing the Internet, or downloading
IMAP/POP 3 e-mail messages.
Feature: Improved USB support.
Benefit: Windows 2000 USB driver issues in the previous version of
ActiveSync have been fixed.
Feature: More robust synchronization with Outlook.
Benefit: Synchronization with Outlook is now more reliable and robust than
before.
Feature: Configure synchronization settings prior to first synchronization,
including custom synchronization settings.
Benefit: Enable all of the ActiveSync options you need in a single step."

Beats me. Installation went well -- installed in les than 5 minutes over top of 3.6. Rebooted the desktop while Axim was in the cradle all the while. Synched then backed up (as I have it set to do) per normal. No change. No speedup or whatever.

It installed fine here as well, nothing special yet - probably nothing special that's why we are still in the 3.X range...

well well well....
My activesync 3.6 died just a few minutes ago, same as like last time when 3.5 died on me. Deleting everything and installing from scratch at both ends made it work again for about three weeks. Nothing changed each time it died, both 3.5 and 3.6 after a while would just give "error connecting" and nothing would solve the problem except major surgery. Lo & behold, 3.7 appears just in time to waste the rest of my evening.
I guess I'll delete 3.6 from my deskbox and see if 3.7 will make life happy again. sheesh, this isn't the most complicated software problem. They must be assigning interns to it or something over in Redmond.

Nope, it didn't help.
Any ideas?
I'm running WinXP on the Deskbox, latest A03 rom on the Axim.
I can connect as guest and stay connected.
If I try to set up a standard partnership, Activsync on the Axim dies after about two seconds -- just disappears. This is via WiFi or over USB. I tried deleting the old partnership, no luck. I uninstalled 3.6 and went to 3.7. No luck. My guess is something in the registry on the Axim is scr*ewed, but who knows what. My only solution seems to be hard reset and complete reinstall, but I can't be doing this every three weeks.
Ugh.

Took the plunge!
After reading what was really new with 3.7, I took the plunge and upgraded. It went great! Absolutely no problems. I installed over (upgraded) 3.6 without a hitch. Sync time "seems" to be faster. I can't swear to it, but it "feels" faster. I had a corrupted AvanGo channel icon in 3.6 which was "fixed," but that was a minor deal. Thank for all the info everyone!

if it ain't broke, dont fix it. Seems very little reason to upgrade to the new active sync.
