I've been finding a ton of free utilities for my new (and first) PDA, the Axim x51v, which runs WM5. I've yet to find any FTP client, or a good SSH client compatible with WM5, for free. I tried sshCE which works OK but not so great and it is not free (it has a trial version). Any suggestions? The FTP client need not support SFTP, but it would be cool if it did and even cooler if the SSH and FTP were integrated with each other to support FTP tunnelling (SFTP)

Thanks again akheron. I have seen your MyPDA list and it was very helpful in finding software for me.
PockeTTY is not free, and I'm still just playing around so it is not worth any money for me (yet). I could try FTPView but it looks pretty old and I'm afraid of how it will work on WM5. It's mostly been WM5 that has been giving me problems in my search for software.
I've found the PuTTY port for PPC -- it was the first I found and I use PuTTY every day on desktop, but on the forums it is filled to the brim with people who have it crash on them and even some who have said they had to hard reset! So I have been staying far away from that.

oy! I downloaded both GSFinder+ and Total Commander, but I've only been using GSFinder and since I was happy I haven't tried TC yet, because I figured how many file managers could I possibly need ;). And I probably downloaded TC so that I could use FTP, too!. OK I will try it out.

There aint no decent SSH client for PPC yet... none which would take advantage of the X50v's VGA display.

Hi Gillius
I looking for a soft that can provide me sftp service with my office server. But i need a client specific for sftp not for ftp.
Did you find any interesting soft?
I never came across one, and I didn't find any free SSH tools that I liked, so I didn't research any more into it. I think Axims support VPN, so you might be able to get something effectively like SFTP by using VPN to a machine that has a direct of a connection to the FTP server as possible, but I'd figure that setting up a VPN like that might be pretty non-trivial.

I was thinking about using one of the free Java SSH apps (i.e. Mindterm), with a Java VM on the PPC. The closest I've come so far was using Midpssh, a J2ME app, via IBM's Workplace Client Technology, Micro Edition J2ME VM (which isn't free, but as far as I can tell, it's under $5). I got hung up early via a stupid WM5 incompatibility -- specifically, the keyboard popup didn't pop-up to let me enter any text (i.e. host name). It did launch, though. I haven't put a ton of time into this yet.
I'm looking for tunnel, SCP, and terminal support (in that order!). I'd pay $20 for a decent client -- but some of these products are > $100, and for non-commercial use, that's just too much for me.
I downloaded the evaluation of (I think it is called Everyplace) IBM's VM based on its J9 VM environment for the PPC. It is only $5 from Handango. But the version I downloaded was version 6, which is designed for WM5 and VGA devices -- in fact the reference hardware for v6 is the x50/x51. The evaluation version doesn't seem to be time limited or hampered in any way, but since version 6 cannot be bought from Handango I decided to try it out rather than version 5.7 designed for 2003SE. I ran a small simple app I found as well as the included example and it ran just as it did on my cell phone (I actually wanted a VM that would support MIDP rather than personal profile). My goal at somepoint is to use it just to see if I can make a MIDlet since I know Java very well, and get it to run on both cell phone and PDA and desktop from the same code, but I haven't touched the eval version since I installed it and tested those examples... (lazy). If/when v6 of IBM's VM comes out for personal use I will be seriously interested in it.
