Question WIMR: Duplicate Files???

I have had to hard reset my axim x50v, wm2003se. It is is working great, but I would like to make sure that there aren't programs and files that I don't need to free up memory.

I have several dlls in my windows directory and also entries in my registry that I think are duplicates. What I would like to know is how can I tell what files are actually being used. The programs all seem to be related to BT and I have updated my BT keyboard to the stowaway drivers and have also added the headphone profile to my BT.

I have a "filename.dll" and "filename.dll1". which of these is now being used?

The same type of double folder entries occur in HKCR.

Sorry for the long post.

Download and run SK_Tools. This utility is great for cleaning up duplicate files amongst many other "useless" things on your axim!

Hope this works for you! :approve:

I ran memmaid, and since they are named exactly the same they remain. I may just them to a card and see how badly the the machine crashes. Thanks for the suggestion.

i failed the multi-tasking test! :nw: :nw:

What I meant to say was I had already cleaned memory(using advanced scanning) with the program memmaid.

Memmaid didn't clean these files because their extensions were not exactly the same. I am just curious if both files were being used -- perhaps for 2 different BT devices, or if one set could safely be deleted. And as I tried to say, I might just move one set and see if the machine crashes or loses functionality. But I hate hard resets, so I'm loathe to go down that path.

Why don't you make a backup, then remove one set to see what happens. If things are ok, continue along your merry way ;) , but if things crash, restore from your backup.

I agree with Gigi. Hard resets aren´t so bad, and they´re even less worrying if you´ve got progs like Sprite Backup!

Alright, I have sprite, which I have used. The first time I restored I did it from the PCwhich was very slow. I haven't tried running it from sd. I guess there is no time like the present for me to see if it works!

You should have no problems running Sprite from memory card or BIS. :approve: Good luck! :)

I use sprite backup with my 1gb sd daily. It shouldn´t take more than 1 minute to do a complete backup. And max 2 min´s for a restore!

Good luck

Thanks for the ref. I've read alot of your posts and they are always helpful. These are all BT related files. I have moved the dll1 files to the sd card, soft reset, scanned and cleaned with memMaid. Everything seems to be okay, except an extra BT icon in the tray. BT keyboard and headphones paired and worked first time.

I'll go into the registry (after backing up again :))and look at those entries as well!
