Selecting NULL in HanDBase

An uninitialized date field in HanDBase is set to NO DATE, which apparently cannot be selected? How does one set up a view to select those records with no date yet set? There is no means to do the basic equivalent of SELECT ... WHERE column IS NULL?

As per an email from HanDBase support, this is not possible.

Oh, and I will be deinstalling HanDBase immediately.

I just figured I would be the first user not named AKAJohnDoe to post in this thread.

I got the same email. Seems like DHH (HandBase) is making a BIG mistake refering their customers to that group for support.

As a workaround to your date issue, I added a checkbox field to check when a date was entered. Not a perfect solution, but it does work, as long as I keep the checkbox in a correct state.

They are supposed to be coming out with a new version soon. It's in beta testing. I haven't checked it out yet. I've only owned HandBase for a short time and the product is OK, but their support and history of updates are a source of concern to me and result in a "qualified" recommendation of the application.

I got admitted to their user group and they asked me if I wanted to let you in and I said no. Just kidding. Actually, they did allow me into their group.

Their database does need a new version. They've had the same version for 3 years.

Yeah. I realize in re-reaing this that I was purely reacting, but am still PO-ed.

HanDBase doesn't neccessarily need true SQL; that is not it's audience. But it does need some attention and feature updates. Desparately.

The turnaround time for support questions is quite excellent; the answers, well, that again reflects on the state of the product.

I suppose it could be worse. They could charge an excessive fee for every little update.
