I don't know of a specific utility, but you can view a list of your installed programs by going to Start - Settings - System - Remove Programs.

I asked about this very issue once before doing a ROM update so I could inventory what I'd have to reinstall afterwards.

Nobody was able to tell me of such a software.

The best advice was to make an Excel spreadsheet listing all of your installed software and serial numbers and store it in the Built-In Storage. Update it as you install/remove stuff and you should have a good starting point should you ever have to reinstall.

Of course, you need to be a bit diligent. I took the suggestion but haven't updated my spreadsheet in ages.

I don't know of any app that does this either. I use ListPro for many things, one of them being listed my installed apps and where they are installed. I also list the version I have, so when I am out and about on the web, I can quickly see if I need to upgrade anything.

harleyxlc, I had considered using ListPro for this, but I decided upon using the Excel spreadsheet for the simple fact that it's in ROM. After a hard reset, you'll be able to access the spreadsheet immediately without having to install ANY third-party software. I own ListPro, so that's not an issue; I just like the ability to have my access to my critical info in as simple a fashion as possible.

Try this and see if it works. This is my first ever attempt at writing something for the Axim so try not to laugh too hard :)

I suppose this could be done via your PC and a DOS BAT file with a FOR loop looking into all directories and subdirectories for *.EXE files.

That doesn't work as you can't access the PDA's filesystem from the normal command shell, I suppose you could do it using rcmd but that sounds like a lot of work for a relatively simple task. The other problem is it would only give you the executable names not the application names which can be completely different. The way I think Remove Programs does it is by listing \Windows\*.unload, which seems to work OK (see above).

You have a good point. I keep a separate list of installed apps and software keys (PC and PPC). Might be nice to have a single, more intelligent list!

I keep a record of software in 6 places:
  • The PDA itself
  • Under a folder in email (Thunderbird) on my PC where I keep the communications regarding the software
  • Under a folder on my PC where I save the actual original software order in HTML format
  • Under another folder on my PC, where I keep the actual software install package (current, minus 1, and minus 2 versions)
  • The registration and key info in SplashID (on my PDA and PC)
  • On a backup of my PC taken to a USB hard drive (which includes backups of my PDA as it also includes backups of my SD and CF cards that I took to the PC and the PDA is backed up to the SD card)

And the software I run, with hyperlinks (but NO Registration Code Info), is also under the View MyPDA link here at Aximsite!

Very cool. Now if it would let me keep the list by copying or saving.

Thanks,

Rich

I'll add saving to a text file and see if I can get a "Send to Pocket Word" option working. You can actually copy at the moment by selecting everything and doing a "Ctrl-C" on the SIP but I'll try and get that working via tap & hold as well. Any other suggestions?
