REAL SOLUTION: Installing Root Certificate to your PDA.

I sell PHP and Perl scripts online. I have a helpdesk installed at my website. I read and reply my customers' inquiries via SSL (https://upoint.info/helpdesk/hd.client.php) as the messages sometimes contain FTP login info and e-payment transaction details.

Each time I accessed the helpdesk using my Dell X50v, I would get a popup message saying the certificate was issued by a company I had chosen not to trust.

I searched for more than one hour in Axim Site (and also Google & Microsoft) and found many threads related to this. People seemed to have no problem installing Personal Certificates but nobody has any solution to installing Root Certificates .... not even a close one.

Double-click the cert file under File Explorer and see what happens. You will most probably be told that the file extension is not associated to any program if you have not associated it to the file /Windows/certinst.exe. If it is already associated to certinst.ext, you might then get the message that the certificate cannot be accessed. Don't worry! Read on ..... Just before I gave up, I found a clue and it lead me to success! This is what you need to do:

1) Download the Root Certificate and install it to your desktop computer. I would assume you know how to do this.

2) Export the cert using Internet Explorer:
Internet Explorer >> Tools >> Internet Options >> Contents >> Certificates >> Trusted Publishers

3) Select the Cert you want to export and click EXPORT. Save as DER X.509 (.CER) format using a name such as "myrootcert.cer".

4) Copy the exported file to your PDA. Double-click it under File Explorer. This time, you will be asked whether you want to install the cert. Complete the rest .....

5) Go to SETTINGS >> SYSTEMS >> CERTIFICATES >> ROOT under you PDA and you should see the new certificate there.

6) Test access your SSL site. This time, no more popup warning.

Hopefully this article would save so souls out there. Common, Administrator. Stick this ......
