I'm pretty sure you can use a FM transmiter with the Axim but a better bet would be a tape accessory which plugs into the Axim and then into the car tape deck. They run about $10 US and have better sound quality than the FM transmitter. Hope this helps.
I've contemplated that also... I'm not sure if I want to go with that or an FM transmitter.
I have a cassette player in my car (2002 Monte Carlo SS) - never tried it, but I assume it works.
The thing with an FM transmitter, though, is its a bit more universal, as I could use it anywhere with a radio - besides just the car. But with a casette one, its hard to find anywhere (besides my car) that can still play cassetes.
I dunno - Any suggestions on one side of the board or the other? Whats going to provide the best sound/bass?
I think i am definately going to go for the transmitter. simply because like you said, i can use it in my car, my girlfriends car, my house, etc...
Funny thing is, i am actually a sound engineer at a recording studio, but im really not too worried about magnificent sound quality..........i dont really mind lower quality, its kind of like a breath of fresh air.
so i guess it works out.
next question, though, is which one? the belkin is about 30, but is there a cheaper one that is just efficent? i went to radio shack, and they had nothing but 75 dollar ipod accessories.
before buying one of the cheaper ones, check which frequencies it transmits on. I bought a cheap Belkin which only transmitted on 4 frequencies. Worked great in the USA but when I got it back to the UK i found those 4 frequencies were already taken by one of the powerful BBC channels.... not a hope of competing with Terry Wogan!

Ditto on this one.
Most of the $30ish ones have the full band, while the sub $20 seem to all have 2 to 4 frequencies around 88 IIRC.
Has anyone seen any Bluetooth or WiFi enabled car stereos out yet?
If not, that would be an excellent idea. Don't you think?
I believe some of the newer high-dollar cars are bluetooth equiped. I think this is for handsfree phone use mostly but it might be possible to adapt that to music.

My dad bought a cassette adapter, and we can use any device that has an audio jack...But yes, his car is basically the only place we can use it. The sound comes in stereo, which is nice, but it doesn't sound that great. FM would sound better, right?

well, i went and bought the belkin fm II transmitter today, and i am pleased. it is very transportable and i like being able to play my collection on any radio, but everyone is right, the static is a little annoying, small price to pay though i guess. thanks for everyones help
:)
Digital ones are best, they will transmit to any FM channel. The one I have you can get for $10 or so at Walgreen's, it has 4 preset channels. Problem is there isn't much empty FM in Orlando. I'm tempted to simply wire up my car stereo or hack up a pair of BT stereo headphones to get a BT solution. Only problem there would where to source my audio from. Somebody does make a stereo BT headset with stereo mini phone plugs output, so you can use them with any headphones. That would be easy to implement, with off-the-shelf components.
I've been using a Belkin Tunecast II and it works great. I set one of my stereo presets to the clear channel I picked so it's really easy to switch back and forth from radio to Axim (or iPod) tunes

I have a Radio Shack FM transmitter. Works like a champ pretty much every day - I play podcasts (pulled down with smartfeeed), and often queue a few up for the ride into work (an hour).

It's made in China and branded as Radio Shack. It kind of looks like a flattened egg, but works like a champ. The audio jack tucks in, it runs on 2 AAA batteries, has a car cigarette ligher adaptor, and has a range of 8 channels.
It's amusing when you drive past someone else using the same frequency. You kind of look up at each other and smile.
