Hi. i have been reading some posts about axim vs. ipod as an mp3 player. I really want an ipod, but mainly to use in the car with the transmiter accessory. Can you do this with the axim (x51v)? I just notice that there are millions of accessories for the ipod (which i think contributes much to the craze) so you can basically use it as a home stereo/car stereo/portable player/etc... just want to know if that stuff is possible with my axim.
I'm pretty sure you can use a FM transmiter with the Axim but a better bet would be a tape accessory which plugs into the Axim and then into the car tape deck. They run about $10 US and have better sound quality than the FM transmitter. Hope this helps.

seriously though. how many people still have cassette decks still? they might have slightly better SQ but the heads will burn out.
I picked up a digital FM transmitter that is also has a usb port to accept usb drives and or card readers and acts like an Mp3 player. SQ if excellent. no issues in SQ what so ever. Quality has improved since they first came out.
I would say most people have SQ issues due to choosing the wrong FM frequency. Usually too close to a radio stations frequency. Or they have a bad fm radio reception period which has to do with the deck!
I still have a tape deck in my 99. I wish the cd player and tape player swapped places, but that's another story. I'd still rather go with the tape accessory rather than the fm transmitter, but your best bet would be if your radio has an auxilary in.

I went to radio Shack and grabbed something called an I-Rock for about $19.99. It worked great, but ran on two AAA batteries. I had it for a few years until the batteries exploded inside. I then bought one of the newer versions which has the cigarette lighter adapter. It works OK, but there is a lot of noise if the Axim and adapter are both plugged in. Unplugging one or ther other seems to make the noise stop. This one was about $29.99 because of the adapter.
The best connection would be an auxillary input, followed by the casette adapter, followed by the FM transmitter.
well, i have no casset player, so that is out of the question. and i may have an aux in on my cd player, but its probably in the back. so i guess ill try the fm transmitter for now.
you see, i broke 2 cds the other day in my car on accident and just want to end that. i hear all these ipod people talk about "all my cds are practically new!!"
I wanted to use my x51v to listen to in my car and tried an fm transmiter but the quality was horrible. Had a little static all the time. Probably just my car. But then i found out my cd player in my car had a plug in the back for a cd changer. I found a plug that converted it to an aux in with rca audio plugs. I then just got a headphone to rca wire and it played perfect! great quality. Not sure how most cd players handle aux inputs though. One thing though is that when i played a song through the x51v, the bass on my sub didnt pick up nearly as well as the real cd, not sure why. I use x50v mix and that i think had some issues with it but not totally sure.
