Contacts and categories

I noticed a problem lately and it only seems to be happening with one category. For some reason when I created some new contacts and added a new category for those contacts on my PC, the Axim wouldn't accept the new category. Now I can go to that contact on the Axim and change to the right category, but the second I make any changes to that contact on the PC it loses the category listing again.

Anyone ever had this happen? Any solutions? I already went through and deleted all contacts from my Axim and re-synced, but it still happens.

Is this posted in the wrong area, or has no one ever experienced this problem?

I'm really confused as to why deleting all my contacts on the Axim and re-syncronizing didn't fix this.

You should be in the right area, lance, it looks as if others haven't seen the problem (I know I have not).

Have you tried to create another new category, and some contacts? It might help to see if everything new has the problem, or just the one, wicked category. Does the category work the way it should on your pc?

Are you just using the straight Dell contact, or do you have PI or AF layered over top?

I vaguely remember when starting with Agenda Fusion, I had to set up all the categories with a separate little program. Can't remember offhand, but if you're using one of those, we can look into it further.

If you're just using Dell's, maybe someone else will have more information. :( Good luck!

What's the name of the problem category? Maybe it's the number of characters, or some special characters that is giving the Ax fits.

It just happened again with a new category. On my PC I have had the category of "C0347 Mimi Maternity Richmond-VA", but haven't associated it with a contact yet. I just added a contact and associated it with this job and also gave it a category of "HVAC" and only the "HVAC" is showing when I click on the contact on the Axim. All of my work contacts are reverenced to a job related category name, other example is "C0308 Pac Sun Orlando-FL" which are fine. I know it's not the length, because I have a longer category name and that one is fine.

For some reason Outlook on the Axim is not syncing any of the new categories from the PC. If I go onto the Axim and type in the same exact category and assign the contact that category, it will lose it if I make any correction to it on the PC and re-sync.

Speaking of categories, is there a way to globally change a list of contacts from one category to another? The problem is that the category I want to use is further down the list and I'm too lazy to scroll. So, I want to change the name of the category and then update ALL contacts with that category. Is there an easy way to do this??

Thanks in advace! :)

Lance, that is very weird, and I will be no help in solving it, sorry.

If you don't get a nibble here, I would recommend hitting some of the other forums out there for help.

Here is a completly odd thing. My very last category is "Work". If I assign one of the new categories just added to my PC and then assign "Work" to it, Axim will list the categories correctly, but if I pick the second to last category, it will lose the "C03.." category and keep the "HVAC" and whatever else.

Now, let me see if I'm understanding this.

You have (for arguments' sake) 500 contacts, with 20 different categories, some of which are types of work like "hvac" or "roofing" and others of which are specific jobs like "C0308 Pac Sun Orlando-FL" or others.

You build the categories on your pc first, and then when you add the contacts, you apply at least TWO categories to each one (work and contract).

Now, sometimes when you do this, the contract category of "sun orl" gets dropped, and only the "hvac" one shows on your axim? Is it correct (with both categories) on your PC still? Is this now happening with each new category you make, regardless of what it looks like? Maybe there's some hard limit in Outlook you've reached...

Don't even know what to suggest about your newest issue. There must be some power-Outlook users here, I hope they can help more.

You pretty much have it. The PC retains the correct info and Axim doesn't show it, however if I update one of those contacts with the categories not syncing, then the PC will drop that category (job location) and just keep the scope of work. I just tried adding a new category i.e. "Fire Sprinklers" and it would not show up to a new contact, until I added "Work" as a category.

Hoo boy. *Shaking my head, here*

Are you having unusual sunspot activity, wherever you are? :-P

I empathize, but won't be much help with the issue. Hope someone with more Outlook clout shows up to help!
