Fresh SW Install From Hard Reset - Order & Contents

Well, at long last I am ready to build my Axim X50v (WM2K3 A05) with all the software that I have decided upon. This is my first PDA. I have spent quite some time reading tons of postings at this site and believe that I have amassed a useful compliment of software and the knowledge of where it should be installed.

Here is my listing of what I will install, where it will be installed, and the order in which it will be installed. Naturally, I will be doing interim backups along the way just in case something goes awry, along with some soft resets.

Preparation Steps:

Clean out BIS, SD cards, etc, then perform a hard reset. Establish ActiveSync via BT, establish G connection to secure network, name PDA and enter ID info. Install Sprite Backup to BIS. This becomes my "blank slate" starting point and the point of my first backup.

Main Memory Installations:

1. Journal Bar
2. Battery Pack Pro
3. WisBar Advanced & a few skins
4. BT & Wireless Icon replacements (after Resco is installed)

BIS Installations:

1. cLaunch. Can someone confirm that it runs okay in BIS? It installed just fine, but from all I read, in theory I should install it to Main Memory. It seems to be okay in BIS from what little testing I have done. Also, am I missing the option to make the background area within it transparent?
2. Resco Explorer
3. Resco Photo Viewer (Dell CD & Resco OEM fix)
4. MemMaid
5. TextMaker with dictionary (Install to SD - shown here for order of installs)
6. PlanMaker (Install to SD - shown here for order of installs)
7. NetFront 3.3 (setup XM Radio account)
8. OCN5
9. Pocket RAR
10. PHM Task Manager
11. Spb Keyboard & Skin
12. CabInst and gsgetfile-i.zip
13. Macromedia Flash
14. File Dialog Changer (filedlgchg.zip)
15. vxUtil.zip
16. VNCView.exe
17. WiFiFoFum
18. Beta Player & codecs (WMV, ffmpeg)
19. Novii Remote Control & Codebase
20. AquaCalc
21. Adobe Reader
22. Units of Measure Converter
23. Remote Display Control
24. Virtual Earth Mobile
25. Pocket TV Listing & skins
26. Marine Beta by SerenePPC
27. MS Theme Switcher & Generator

1st 1G SD Installations:
1. TextMaker with dictionary
2. PlanMaker
3. Themes (deleting ignore_my_docs)
4. Games (Bookworm, Chess, Christmas Rush, Maze, Minesweeper, Nutcracker, Rivers Majong, TripYzeee, Tropical Nights Video Poker, Enigmo and Patience Gold)

2nd 1G SD Installations:
1. OCN5 Maps (smaller maps can be put on my 512MB SDs)

1G CF Installations:
1. Sprite Backups reside here.

Question - Besides Adobe Reader, which of the above can benefit from FreeVGA.zip (forced HiRez)?

I plan on saving all my PC installers, reg codes and all the cab files from the install directories off to a CD for archieve purposes. I will also put another copy on one of my older, smaller 128MB SD cards to keep in my Axim travel kit.

Anyone have any comments on this? Any blaring errors?

Thanks,
Dobermann

How did this re-build go? Did everything work as planned. How long did it take you to do everything?

Life keeps getting in the way. I have also been experimenting with both the Minimo .012 and the Opera browser, trying to decide which to install (including counting NetFront). I like to put the bigger, more important programs in before the other "lighter" stuff so it stacks better.

I would chose Opera, but I don't like that it says the beta is good only for 45 days. That means that if I go through and install everything now, in 45 days I would have to redo it with the newer beta/final, and Opera would then be at the "back" of the installs -- something my anal retentive personality would be driven crazy over. I should check that thread again and see if they have a newer release without the 45 day limitation.

Cheers,
Dobermann

Yeah, I'm using Opera as well and keep checking whether they have any more info. They are strangely quiet about what they are upto, especially for the 2003se folks. Keep us posted. I see myself doing the same thing in a month or two after things settle down. (maybe even a workable wm5. well, I'm a dreamer)
