I can't even get it to load. I think that the PPC version needs some work!

Caveat 2: My Internet Explorer is broken, so most of what I am doing now is done with the knowledge that a hard reset is in the imminent and probably there are some registry issues that may cause problems with any browser.
caveat 3: still on wm2003se
that being said, I have been switching between between Netfront 3.3 (beta) and Opera and have managed to have to do three soft resets. Switching back and forth may have something to do with that.
Opera's fonts are very tiny. I have had to adjust the font size to 14 in for portrait and 16 for landscape.
There are minimal adjustments that you can make, however, I know it uses an ini file, so maybe there are tweaks that you can do by editing the file directly.
You load all the images, which can take a while on some pages, but it is still fast enough. I haven't gone to many demanding sites.
There seems to be a conflict with some of the keyboards. Transcriber and Calligrapher work as long as you do not try to write where the cursor is. You have to write outside of the input area. I have had trouble changing the input method.
I have trouble picking links, as if the screen registration is off a bit.
d-pad just goes to links, but maybe the registry hack that has been described for ie works here as well. so far it looks like it needs work. there does not seem to be a convenient way to get from window to window, but maybe i'm just misssing it. but there does seem to be a lot of tab real estate that that could hold some useful buttons.
so far, it seems like it needs work, but who knows, by the time wm5 is ready for prime time this may be too. I'm still hopeful, and still playing with it.
I love the desktop version but I'm also running WM5. Mabye there a problem with the OS and not the IE.

I just tried it and the dealbreaker for me was when I checked out my available RAM. Although I installed the program to BIS, Opera installed over 2MB of 'stuff' directly into RAM. My memory is already at a premium. It is all I cn do to keep my RAM above the 20MB mark because of all the programs I have running even though I install absolutley nothing into RAM. I do all the tweaks and I run MemMaid regularly, but I have a very extensive list of software on my PDA.
That being said, unless they can make the footprint smaller, I will not be using this program. It is sad because I was really digging it until I saw this problem.
Why do programs do this? TomTom is doing the same thing to me. It dropped like 3-4 MB into RAM. I loved Microsoft Voice Command, but it also dropped 4MB into my RAM.

Opera was remarkable on Windows Mobile 5 x50v. In fact, Opera and Minimo are the only two major things keep me from rolling back to SE.

Call me crazy but after using it a while, I dont understand the hype. Speed is not the biggest issue for me but the launch speed of Opera seems slower than IE. The rendering maybe faster but is minimal. I'll give it a second try later but I'm happy with PIE now.

It does mention that there are a LOT of bugs in the software still but for any sites that it does work with, it's very fast. It's only early days yet - it sounds to be a promising product!
Now, I wonder how much they're going to charge for it when it's released?
Opera 8.5 works great for me on the WM5, but it wont play so nicely with a VPN connection. Kills my VPN connections. Don't know why.
If you go to the opera forums, there is a post in the main comment thread about how toedit the .ini for proxies. Maybe there is something there that will help with vpn.
In the meantime, I've started scrutinizing the WM5 version, which seems to be in an entirely different class, compared to the WM2003(SE) version, stability and compatibility-wise. I'm still doing tests with the help of my newly acquired Dell Axim x51v; the results, so far, are excellent. Will post the whole story and updates tomorrow to my review ( http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ind...3&p=457&more=1 ).
It (that is, strictly the WM5 version – NOT the WM2003(SE) one!) just rocks. The two versions are indeed different – just give a try to the "problematic" URL's I've provided and/or browse the screenshots I've taken. (I've listed a several URL's in the new review where you can also check that the pre-WM5 version indeed likes to stall/freeze, unlike the WM5 one.)
Works flawlessly on WM5. I only hate that 1. the stupid days left in trial message that comes up on the beta and 2. that closing one window will close all Opera windows (and then you have to view the d*mn trial notice again upon restart).
I thought Opera was only noted for speed on PC...? I can vouch for that point, at least. Pocket Opera also seems to be much more efficient than PIE also, so I'd agree with the speed aspect on that. Haven't really paid attention otherwise.
