As usual I musta done something wrong. My Word Mobile won't open a new file. I get an error "A problem with the document was encountered and it cannot be opened."
I CAN open existing files without problems.
DW
Hey DW,
I am having the same problem with my Word Mobile. I get the same error message when I try to open a new document. I can open existing documents just fine. Why is this??? If you already figured it out....please let me know.
Thanks.
I have Axim x51v....ROM A06
I am having a similar problem when I make a new Word file it works fine. Here is my problem: I have an Axim 51v and when I try to open a Word document that was saved on my PC and sync'd to the Axim, a Word Mobile screen pops up that says, "A problem with the document was encountered and it cannot be opened." I can open other Word documents on the Axim, and the file that I cannot open on the Axim, can be opened fine on my PC. This happens with numerous files. I searched for similar problems on the web and only a few sites mention it and suggest that possibly a template file is missing. My template folder is empty but even if the problem was the missing template, why would some Word files open? I called Dell but they wanted about $90 to give me the answer and since I bought this less than a month ago and I'm just using it for the first time, I feel that it ought to work right without me having to pay another $90. I tried a hard reboot and sync'd it with the PC again but am still having the same problem. Has anyone had a similar problem? Do I need templates? Where can I find them? I haven't had any luck locating them either. Did you find a solution to your problem?

Yup...my problem was solved a long time ago. It was basicallya template issue. I'm not sure for you though. Sorry I could not be of much help.
Good luck
I had the issue mentioned in the first post (couldn't create a new document.) I'm not sure if this was just a fluke, but try this:
1. Open a file explorer (built-in one works fine)
2. Go to the \My Documents\Templates folder
3. If you are using the built-in file explorer and you don't see anything, tap-and-hold and tap "Show All Files." If you are using Resco File Explorer and get a blank page, go to File-Options, tap the Browser tab, and select the radio button next to "Show All Files," then tap OK. Other programs should function in a similar manner.
4. Tap the first .dot file in the explorer to open it. (the icon looks like a notepad with the Word icon on top of it.) Close Word, then open the next .dot file. Continue through all of the Word templates.
5. Open Word and try to create a new document.
If this doesn't work, have someone with the same version of Windows Mobile give you a copy of the templates, then (BACKUP!!!) and replace the old templates with the new ones, making sure the file names are identical.
Hope this helps!

An "X" in my post shows I'm posting from my Axim.
Scanned with Jotti, then opened it Sandboxed.
It's just dotx and other templates...

@Box, aren't most of us Veteran+ posters altruistic?
By "but I will wait and see.", Box is suspicious of possible malware. But I scanned it and checked it, it was fine.
But, the Search function does great at finding answers with the needed to revive old threads. Some things are better left alone.
