Hey everyone...
I'm looking for some better "ToDo" software for my Axim x51v... What I'd like, is something (Free would be awesome) but works like this:
Mortgage
o - Call Bank
o - Call Hydro company
o - Fax papers to Lawyer
Shopping List
o - Peanut Butter
o - Milk
Website
o - Add usernames
o - Update news page
o - Redesign logo
etc. Multiple "catagories" with a check list in there... instead of just one huge list of unorganized clutter.
Does anyone know of anything that does this? Like I said... Free would be good, but that doesn't really matter...
I have looked into this a lot, and finally decided on Pocket Informant. It's not free, but it lets you use categories for all your tasks. ListPro is another way to do this, but making each category of tasks a ListPro list, then within the list is each task. Each of these programs offers free trial downloads. I use the Getting Things Done (Dave Allen) system of organizing and tracking tasks, and each of these works well with that system. A couple of useful links are http://www.43folders.com/2004/09/08/...g-things-done/
and http://www.davidco.com/store/catalog...is-p-16161.php.
The software above isn't free, but it works well for me. Maybe some other folks here will have suggestions for free solutions.
Just wanted to make a post and let you know that I have found ListPro to be exactly what I need... now if only it interfaced with the Today screen... :) but that's okay... it's perfect... Thanks LongWalker for suggesting that.
Hey LongWalker - thanks for the mention of the Dave Allen stuff. I'd never heard of that before and always have a few separate task lists on the go (one in PI, one in Agendus on the Treo) and am going to check some of that out - looks useful. Can you recommend any particular docs / articles of his that you've found the most useful?

Glad to help. The book (Getting Things Done) has the whole system laid out. It's helped me, since I tend to have more ideas than time to do things, and also tend to procrastinate (a bad combination). The Dave Allen website has some good free articles, the one on how he set up his Palm is probably the most relevant http://www.davidco.com/store/catalog...-p-1-c-254.php
This site http://www.marktaw.com/gtd/ContextLists.html
has some information on the categories for the task lists. I know there's a Dave Allen newsgroup out there somewhere. He has some pretty dedicated followers. Good luck!
Has somebody out there used Dreameesoft's Pocket ToDo List? What do you think about this software? How does it compare with Pocket Informant's Task Manager?
I use Plan Plus from Franklin Covey. It will let you prioritize your task list with ABC, and then you can put notes on each of the tasks.
Very flexible and I've been using it on my X50v for a year with no problems at all.
It also includes a searchable "Daily Record of Events" if you want to keep track of things you've done each day, or any notes you want to make. www.franklincovey.com
<Edit> 5/16/06 I just got an X51v w WM 5.0. The prioritized task list from plan plus works on the PDA, but it will NOT synch with the PlanPlus on your desktop. Sooo, you can put a task into the Ax and it works fine, it just won't transfer the tasks over to the desktop. If you type a task into outlook on the desktop, it won't transfer over to the Ax. For my uses, it will work fine. I just type them into the PDA and check them off there. It just won't synch.
