Resource Drain

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that WisBar seems to drain available memory? Before I installed it my Axim would start up around 31M available and I could go several days without noticeing much loss in memory. Now that I'm running WB though, I start around 28-29 and after a day or maybe a little longer my system is sluggish and running around 20-21M free. Maybe I'm just being picky

I stopped using Wisbar a while back as it seemed to make my axim quite sluggish ... but honestly I think the memory drain you see is applications either not removing themselves from memory properly or something to that effect (more so than Wisbar).

Generally I have found that gwes.exe it the thing that ends up hogging memory after a while, and I have yet to figure out exactly what it is because I run so much junk (and I use them all in a day) so I can't go day by day, software by software to figure out where the problem is.

I kept getting gwes.exe errors after installing some of the SBSH programs so I eventually turned error reporting off. I;m still on the trial of WB, I like it, but I'm not sure if it's really necessary. I'm still debating. If nothing else I can just do a soft reset each morning and I should be fine. I'll figure something out I suppose.

It's not Wisbar - I've seen it grow maybe a 100K, but not much over that over the course of some days. It's probably GWES.EXE and Services.EXE, which will grow the longer the PDA's turned on... and the more programs you run. I've kept my WBA and PocketBreeze/Pocketweather installs up to date, and I've found that the memory drain's gone down a LOT since I installed PB 5.0.12 and PW 1.2.4 along with WBA 2.5.0.1.

Of course, I also keep MemMaid and SKTools on the device, which helps with my memory usage. :D

Well i was just browsing MemMaid and SKTools and they look pretty much identical. Is there any reason you run both? Which is better?

MemMaid clears program cache and shows how your memory's used quite well, plus it's easy to use.

SKTools lets you tweak system settings, and free up actual program RAM on WM5, which saves me soft resets.

Well I downloaded the trial of MemMaid and am trying it out but I've noticed it isn't clearing everything. I just ran a scan and found 132kb of stuff (mostly in IE) and when I hit clean it only removed about 36kb. Each time i've run it it has deleted a little more but never the whole amount. Is this normal?

Did you use QuickClean or the normal clean method? Also, did you check for it to clear the IE cache, and was IE closed at the time? If IE's active when you're doing the cleaning, it's not going to be able to delete files in use.

Usually I can clear 400+K of stuff, if I haven't been cleaning for a bit. When I run it, I make sure it's the only program active - no other tasks running besides maybe file explorer and Today plugins.

Yes I checked and everything is closed. I also made sure all the boxes were checked and I was doing the full clean. I don't know why it won't take everything out. Everytime I run it it takes a little more, but never all of it.

Odd. I don't have that problem - do you have any other task manager type programs like Magic Button or PocketPlus installed? I never have problems clearing out that part of the cache with MemMaid and WM5. I use Wisbar Advance 2, so I know exactly what's running, and I usually turn on the 'close PIE before cleaning' option in the Cleaner Settings menu in MemMaid (the gear button).
